Is there a 100 Win (give or take) curse in the game?

Absolutely, it's bitten me in the ass many times!

Yea I dont have the answer. We could say the Buffalo Bills were not good enough and lost 4 Superbowl's in a row. But when you win the championship 2 out of 14 times its probably not because you weren't good enough after winning 100 plus games. One team won 115 games and got knocked out in the semis. We are all trying to use a strategy but its real evident that probably in all games alot more is to chance than we think. That includes baseball... football oh and my favorite...
horse racing which I pretty consistently lose but will come back and try to defy the odds.

Once again, many of you are comparing apples to breadfruit.

Of those owners that I know, that have terrible records with 100+ win teams, such as nevdully, ---all of them meet the following criteria:

1) They have bought a very large volume of teams--thousands
2) They have been player STRAT online for years
3) They have high winning % in both season and playoffs

I don't know of any owner, who has encountered the curse, that does not meet those criteria. So if as a owner, you do not, then you are not talking about the same thing.

And most of the guys that I know per above, have retired from STRAT.

I asked before in this thread, and am still curious, who are some of the other owners that have quit because of this?

I went to the managers records page and sorted on winning % and then chose the top 5 managers with 700+ leagues. They were BC15NY, Goreds54, nomadbrad, The Last Druid, tmfw30.

I then went to my file of league standings that goes through late August 2022 and chose the 100 or more win seasons (12-team) for the above managers since late 2019 (so time range is start dates from late 2019 to August 2022). I manually looked at the playoffs of each of those seasons and recorded the following:

name/lost-semis/lost finals/champs/champs %

BC15NY 8 4 6 33%
Goreds54 3 7 5 33%
nomadbrad 8 7 16 52%
The Last Druid 2 2 5 56%
tmfw30 4 2 5 45%
Total 25 22 37 44%

Total winning % in semis: 70%
Total winning % in finals: 63%

Prior to pulling this data, my expectation for the championship percentage of a 100+ team was about 32% without any additional knowledge about who the manager was. For managers with an established winning record, like those above, my expectation was around 36%. My expectations were based on simulations using a methodology modified from that described in "Analyzing Baseball Data with R" by Marchi, Albert, and Baumer.

What a ridiculously stupid conspiracy theory. Confirmation bias and a victim mentality contribute to this nonsense. Some of you sound like the college kids who lose money on professional sports betting and then pronounce that the NFL or MLB is rigged.

Let me guess, these same people think the election was also rigged and everyone is out to get them. What a joke.

And then there's the guy claiming only certain people are victims of the rigging, but can only name one person who falls into his imagined category.

Like Carl Sagan said, we really are living in a demon haunted world.

Lastly, just like the people that whine about the NFL being rigged, they don't realize there is no point or advantage to rigging games. They are making money anyway and being caught rigging a single game would ruin the entire gravy train. And for what?

This is so silly I am not going to count my 100 win teams, of which I have had dozens.... It's just not even worth looking into it's so silly. And I am sure most of my 100 win teams did not win the championship. But unlike some, I don't cry cheating.

And oh by the way, IT HAPPENS IN REAL LIFE MLB ALMOST EVERY SEASON. Most people just don't understand statistics, but at least more SOM players do when compared with the general public.

By the way,I once had 11 100 teams in a row not win a championship, and the game being rigged didn't even cross my mind.

I say No. and voted No

But honestly I’ve never won 100 games so don’t have any personal experience.

Isn’t this why baseball is such an interesting sport. Small sample sizes and randomness and slumps and hot streaks and all that. If it was too predictable it wouldn’t be nearly as interesting

There is no 100 win curse. Or curse against longtime owners. The statistical evidence presented in this thread makes that clear. Really, SOM is not that clever to factor all these biases into their game system, and why would it benefit them?

But...people believe what they want to believe. Psychological research tells us so.

Anecdotally-speaking, people love to whine if they don't get what they expect.

seems the human tendency to feel victimized ...ahem...

oh I meant to say...

Seems the baseball simulation corporate tactic of pissing off its customers by secretly tweaking results for some of their high volume customers is a business tactic.

at least there is the schadenfreude aspect eh?

Really, it is quite a modern cultural and generational vicimization phenomenon that negative things happen to certain people vs in spite of them. Transcends computer simulations.

Oh duh--sorry Hack--I kind of repeated what you wrote. That always happens to me :stomps feet:

It's not Hack's fault, or anyone else, that you type so slow :-)
