I'm way late in my reply, but this question will give me a chance to get on my soap box!
I would say it's too early. Poor results (and conversely good results) are often a poor predictor which card you have unless you have a lot of plate appearances. I see some managers will cut a player for poor performance after just a series or two. 25 appearances, even with 17 off of a player's card, is still too small a sample to determine a player's likely card.
Think about it in reverse. How many times have you had a player start off on a tear and you're thinking "great, he must be on his best card!" only to find out later through an injury reveal that he's actually on an undesirable card? It works both ways.
One more thing I look at also is how is the player doing with ballpark singles and homeruns. Is he doing better or worse than expected?
