Look what I found. This is the number of left handed and right handed batters faced for lefty and righty pitchers based on their balance. There seems to be a slight tendency for HAL to use more lefty batters when the pitcher is weaker against lefties and vice versa.

It is a very limited data set and I don't remember what leagues it came from.

This is incredible labratory! Thank you! As you point out, the sample size is a bit weird without clearer correlations from 9R to E to 9L but I so appreciate it all----especially the overal LHP and RHP %s !!! Thank you.

I'm working with these differing rates (LHP vs R at 66%, RHP vs R at 44%) and will see what is a good point. Early read is unbalanced guys (who obv tend to be more dominant against their own side) are WORSE values but the reverse guys who were previous seen as turrible are presumably better. I feel a bit bad for the RHP who dominate Righties now....

More diversity in what types of cards are "good" values or "bad" values which is great. Not to end the conversation ;) but thank you all so much!!!

Great data. Shows me, if I'm understanding it -- and correct me if I'm wrong, which wouldn't be surprising :) -- that a lefty reverse pitcher like Vean Gregg (a favorite of mine) is a good bargain. And reverse pitchers are better, lefties more than righties in this regard. Makes common sense given the wide usage of platoons in the game. Also, most managers won't take the extra step to set reverse lineups to combat this; I don't that much either, unless in a playoff or particularly beneficial situation, because often those reverse lineups have their own weaknesses, my opinion. All depends on what card the dice falls.

Very anecdotal, but there are 64 SP* ($2mil or more) with 4L or 4R balance. 19 of them are "reverse" pitchers like Gregg. Here are there "over/under-priced" %s according to my NERP and eNERP formulas:

*positive scores mean "overpriced". Negative scores mean "underpriced"
**Cheaper players in the low $2mil consistently score as "underpriced"

LHP
V. Gregg (L) - $9.21 = -2.4%
P. Corbin (L) - $5.77 = 10.0%
D. Brown (L) - $5.65 = 6.0%
A. Downing (L) - $2.36 = -3.1%
R. Watts (L) - $2.01 = -10.8%

RHP
J. Arrieta (R) - $11.11 = 5.0%
J. Verlander (R) - $9.07 = 7.5%
B. Saberhagen (R) - $7.42 = 5.4%
J. Barnes (R) - $5.50 = -2.5%
D. Stieb (R) - $5.18 = 1.7%
P. Jarvis (R) - $5.05 = 3.6%
J. Palmer (R) - $5.04 = -2.7%
G. Gentry (R) - $4.96 = 4.8%
M. Moore (R) - $4.81 = -8.7%
D. Martinez (R) - $4.71 = 0.3%
K. Tapani (R) - $4.12 = 9.6%
S. Blass (R) - $3.27 = -11.3%
B. Anderson (R) - $3.18 = 3.9%
A. Sele (R) - $2.33 = -11.0%

So pretty mixed, but Gregg is a slight value :) Nothing can dethrone Randy though

I just separated out all the "uneven" SP* at $2mil or greater and will analyze this weekend.

206 "reverse" SP*
71 of which are meh 1L/1R
54 are 2L/2R
39 are 3L/3R
19 are 4L/4R
9 are 5L/5R
7 are 6L/6R
5 are 7L/7R
1 is 8L/8R
1 is 9L/9R

With the new %vsL and R for LHP and RHP, these reverse will likely become better values within "uneven" pitchers. I believe Hack's comments are mostly off of labratory's breakdown of ACTUAL outcomes within the Sim engine. If Hal ends up playing them a certain way, that's more valuable than my supposed valuation.

To add more detail to the data set I posted. It is true that I don't remember the exact league breakdown. However:

1. they were all Barnstormers leagues
2. they were all either $80 or $100 caps, so there was a mix of DH and non-DH
3. the pitchers were all starting pitchers
4. I didn't include the "Don Sutton R9R" types that only started a few games against specific opponents
5. the data came from the "Sim L/R splits" tab that shows batters faced for each pitcher

I just posted about the vexing Kevin Millwood.

Looking back at labratory's data, the mix of DH/non-DH would only increase the % of time hitters have a platoon advantage (pinch-hitting). a 22% increase in Right-hand hitters getting PA when its a LHP seems high. Just does to me. That's 1 out of 5 hitters so about 2 PER lineup. I don't all teams play 1 let alone 2 platoons, so this does seem high to me in a DH context. I'm a DH guy and gonna price more in that direction.

labratory's $80-$100 mil DH/nonDH data:
LHP vs L = 34%
RHP vs L = 56% --- shaving this to 55% doesn't change much....Millwood from 21.7% overpriced to 21.1%.... this demogrpahic seems too hurt by these %s though.

Any thoughts about the % of PAs vs Lefty bats and Righty bats for Relief Pitchers?

Such differing %s for L and R or reverse BAL guys seems a bit too aggressive because HAL can't start reverse lineups/platoons against them. Plus it seems more random (RHP Sutter being a 3L etc)

Thoughts?
