WTF ???

PostThu Jan 11, 2024 7:15 am

so, my opponent's pitcher (Jerry Augustine, 5.09 ERA and 1.44 WHIP) fatigues to F5 in his first inning and then to F0 in the next two innings.....he throws 3 innings total, holding my team to 1 run, while being a 5.09 ERA hurler with F0 rating for almost 2 whole IP ?????????????????????........

TOP OF INNING 6
0 R.Bush 5-9 Single (RF) b-1 F8
0 1 T.Davis 4-9 Ground Out (SS) Double Play 1-o b-0 gb(SS)x F6
2 R.Powell 4-7 Ground Out (SS) b-0 F5

TOP OF INNING 7
0 J.Ward 1-4 Single (RF) b-1 F5
Stolen Base 1-2 F4
0 2 D.Cater 5-6 Double (RF) 2-H b-2 F4
0 2 J.Votto 4-8 Fly Out (CF) b-0 F2

2 12 J.Cronin 1-5 Strike Out b-0 F0

TOP OF INNING 8

1 T.Davis 2-5 Ground Out (SS)b-0 F0
2 R.Powell 3-12 Ground Out (3B)b-0 F0

SAME GAME

my LHP specialist (Agosto), who's settings are "quick hook" and to avoid RHP, enters in 6th, gives up an immediate HR (of course to LHB), and then rather than subbing TWO better relievers on bench, the computer leaves in a LHP specialist for 2+ IP ?????....when he's only supposed to face a batter or two and only if they're LHB ?????....he's set to be taken out at F5 rating, so when he goes below that to F0 (and of course gives up the game winning runs), the computer DOESN"T take him out, sub in 2 way better relievers (setup and closer), when there's only FOUR outs left in the game, and the current pitcher shouldn't even be pitching ?........all of this, plus above, happens in same game......is it just me, or is the algorithm, computer, whatever, unfair/rigged/ridiculous/inaccurate to MLB realities/all of the above ?????

BOTTOM OF INNING 6
0 B.Mackey 5-6 Double (CF) b-2 F9

Did your other relievers pitch in the prior games? If so, then HAL will often leave a guy in to take a beating if all the other relievers would be fatigued when they come in.

You're using the "F5" setting incorrectly. You're telling the computer NOT to take Agosto out until he's very tired.

I didnt notice that. Yes, its weird to have him set to quick hook and to not remove until F5.

thank you commenter about F5.....i actually changed it proactively and now have it set to F7 or F8 for those specialists...should I adjust that upward even to F9 ? (if I only want them to face the minimum amount of batters)

regarding the better pitchers in prior games (first commenter), no, neither had pitched in at least 2 games before....they were rested.....

these two things I posted are only a few of the inconsistencies I've seen.....I know nothing is for sure, heck my Dodgers have won only 1 title in past 36 years ;- ((((

but, when opposing hitters CONSISTENTLY get HRS off inane chances (1-2 HR, 3-20 double), or Rod Carew hits game winning HRs in 2 consecutive games when he only hit 14 in almost 700 PA, or opposing pitchers hold my team to a shutout or very low scoring affair, when my cumulative (starters) OPS is over .900 and cumulative OBP is over .400....

other things noticed is that opposing hitters, especially the good ones, more often than not get the results on their cards (1-3), rather than my pitchers cards, and vice versa, my best hitters, especially in clutch situations, always get results on pitchers cards

I already commented in another post how ridiculous it is, no matter how great the Mathewson-BigTrain-Koufax-ish SP is, that they should fatigue WELL before 170 pitches in a frigging game, but lo and behold, they are regularly permitted to pitch 9 IP, with 150+ pitch counts and their F factor never goes below 9 or 8 or whatever they began with....it's like their immune to fatigue

I started playing SOM in early to mid 70s, and actually took 2nd place in the advanced baseball tourney at the SOM convention in Champagne Urbana in 1977 as snot-nosed 16-year old, and played old school "mail" leagues (well before internet or even fantasy baseball), and am admittedly fairly new to the online version.....i bought one season computer version (not 365) and this is actually my first full season in 365 format

but, it didn't take long to see that for whatever reason, it seems SOM is TRYING SO HARD to have EVERY ANOMALY and miracle result occur, often with idiotic moves (stealing 3rd, pitch counts almost to 200, etc) that permit or facilitate this

i've had two separate instances in just a week where the opponent had EIGHT CONSECUTIVE BATTERS REACH BASE

when does that ever happen in MLB ?????......once a friggging year ?

I am sorry, I don't mean to rag....but when a platform just leaves a bunch of old cloths and torn t-shirts etc in place of reality, fairness, and balance, "rags" are the only option

as a poker player, I know the odds will eventually (supposedly) even out....but the first third of my current season has been a travesty for anyone with a modicum of MLB and strategy knowledge.....the moves and results SOM is providing make no sense AT ALL, and is frustrating when effort has been made to create a competitive team, then taken down by stupid managing decisions (not me mistaking F5, but the computer leaving pitchers in too long, etc....).....if 365 adopted MUCH MORE of the options/controls the offline computer game has, it would be far superior IMHO

thank you commenters and listeners, just feeling like the online version is WAY different from original dice rolling one, and in this player's case, that's NOT a good thing ;- (((((

You don't want to use those "F" settings for your specialists AT ALL... They are designed to keep a pitcher in as LONG as possible, just the opposite of what you want.
Incidentally, this game really can be fun! Lots of newcomers have the same experience you're having, and certainly some of the complaints are valid. May take some time to get used to the different aspects of the game... some people give up on the game because it's a little TOO different, which is understandable. Others hang in there and have years of fun. All up to you, of course!

I have been playing in a dice and card league myself recently, and some of the insane rolling there has made me think that what happens here is actually not that different. It takes a while to get the hang of the game and get HAL to manage (somewhat) like you want, but there are a lot of fun and interesting things in the online game.

Ask questions. Lots of people here are very happy to share their knowledge and experience.

Also check your setup and closer settings. For one it's not a setup or closing situation. If you have your closer on Maximize then he will not come into a game unless its a closing situation. Check to see if you have them marked to relieve after the seventh or eighth. That will also prevent them from coming in before then.

A lot of times, less is more with the bullpen settings. As previously mentioned, the only time you want the F setting used is if you want a really good pitcher to keep on pitching past his fatigue point.

As for having a pitcher pulled, if they are a S6 they cant get fatigued until the sixth inning regardless of how many consecutive hits they give up. If it's an R3 the same holds true until their third inning of work as I understand it.
