My wife and I are about to leave on a trip to New Zealand, getting back on the 30th. We should have internet access most of the time (hotels and cruise ship), but I don't guarantee that I will post the correct date or time for any bids that I do. I think I need to add 5 hours and take away a day, to match NZ time with EST. I expect the ship for our cruise will have a clock that tells us the time in NYC. But just in case, please feel free to correct any mistakes I make on the time of my bids. Thanks, Mark

Have a great trip! I hope to make it there one day to visit my brother from another mother. Here is a good site for checking the time:

https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/usa/new-york

If in a pinch, you subtract 16 hours from the current time in Auckland.

It looks like even the Moneyball baseball league cannot escape the impact of inflation. With 20 players signed so far this free agent season, teams have spent an average of $5.5 million/year for each contract. Sonny Gray is the big winner, notching a two year $22.2 million deal with the Cape Bear Cubbies, while Zach Eflin is close behind with a one year $11 million deal with the Marin McCovey's. Both aces were disappointed not to secure longer deals, but not all quality starters shared their misfortune. Kyle Bradish and Zach Wheeler each signed five year deals for $40 million and $41.35 million respectively, While veteran lefty Jordon Montgomery secured nearly $29 million over five years. It's been a good year for pitchers.

There is a lot more excitement awaiting with over 100 roster spots remaining to be filled.

madal, ggyppie, and evilspock are up.

There's a bunch of pitchers listed on the available pitchers list that shouldn't be because they have no playing time prior to 2023.

I cannot review every rookie and determine if they are eligible or ineligible for free agency. I have listed all rookies because some rookies are actually second year players and thus eligible for free agency. I recommend you check the player on Baseball Reference to see if the player is eligible before bidding on them:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/regi ... nans000all

For example, Allan Winans first appeared in an MLB game in 2023 and is thus an ineligible rookie. Andre Jackson appeared in games in 2021 and 2022 but is still considered a rookie in 2023, so he is an eligible rookie.

Just a friendly reminder that you will need to reserve sufficient salary to cover your arbitration settlements. It's a bit of guesswork trying to figure out what salary SOM will assign to your players, so be careful. If your player is not carded this year then the arb settlement is the league minimum salary for a player with that many years of service.

Just noticed this, since ggyuppie didn't promote 2021 prospect Kristian Robinson, he was in effect cut and should be removed from his roster.

Phil: On the general 2023 roster page (not the salary spreadsheet for my team) you should move Gleyber Torres from my roster to Madal's, and reduce my total signed players from 34 to 33. I dont know whether a similar adjustment will be needed for Madal's number. I traded Torres to Madal in the offseason, and your "new trades" file correctly reflects that.

thanks,
TN
