I had modeled different scenarios, trying to balance:
- Being able to hang on to each player for as many seasons as possible
- vs. making sure there were enough new players to draft each season
Perhaps the answer would be tinkering with the formula? I had blinders on, insisting that we cover 7 years of eligibility in each season. The currently planned seasons 9-12 have huge numbers of new players in each of them. Perhaps we should cut those seasons down to 5 years each, and then bump up the last couple of seasons?
Something like:
7: 1949-1955 (7 years)
8: 1956-1962 (7 still)
9: 1963-1967 (drop to 5 years)
10: 1968-1972 (5)
11: 1973-1977 (5)
12: 1978-1982 (5)
13: 1983-1987 (5)
14: 1988-1992 (5)
15: 1993-2000 (8 years)
16: 2001 to end
I wouldn't want less players available like this draft vs. more seasons. Wouldn't five seasons give us less players? Is there a good formula that would land us at 15 seasons total?
