HAL Inane DEF replacements ?

PostWed Mar 06, 2024 12:49 am

having a very hard time understanding HALs lack of knowledge and weird methods of substituting

the other night, it exchanged Kevin Bass 3 (-1) e1 from CF (his starting pos on my team, in a platoon) with Sosa in RF who is 3 (-4) e9......so what did that accomplish ???....put a worse defender in CF (e9 from e1) with the same DEF rating (3), and put a much worse arm in RF -1 from -4)......this wasn't due to any other positional change or PH, etc.....just completely doesn't make sense though

now, in this game below, Wockenfus (catcher platoon) comes into the game as a PH (4 def rating) and also same inning my PH Thurman pinch hits also...Thurman is only rated for RF and LF, no catcher rating, so my understanding is he'd get a "5" default from playing a position not on his card.....both guys came into PH in same inning....one (thurman) is only set to be RPH, and not set (specifically) to be any replacement, or other use (can't stop HAL from using him though it seems)....and Thurman again, DOES NOT play catcher....

other other PH same inning, Wockenfus not only DOES PLAY CATCHER< but he is PART OF THE PLATOON at catcher...and has a CATCHER RATING.....

if HAL is gonna sub in a catcher, why the F does he use Thurman here ????

sorry, i already saw the reason for the 2nd issue, it's because there was pitching change and HAL changed PH so Wockenfus was no longer eligible to stay in game....but the first def replacement with Bass and Sosa still doesn't make sense

I have had situations when HAL would rearrange my entire outfield late in the game without any pinchhitters or replacements at all. I feel as if HAL looks at their first position on the card and makes the change figuring that it will improve the defense even when it doesnt. I remember playing Mike Yaz in LF (he was a 1 in both LF and RF but RF was his first position), Acuna in RF (3CF listed first, 2 RF second) and Joey Gallo in CF (2everywhere). HAL would always move Yaz to right, Gallo to left and Acuna to center even though it wasnt the best configuration.

Situation #1

Hal put the better arm in CF because all undesignated( single/double etc) hits go to CF. He valued arm over errors.

Also…Hal is not an “it”. He is a semi benevolent deity whose wrath you should avoid.

OK thank you

not into pyramid or ponzi schemes (bitcoin, Dutch tulips, etc) but appreciate the arm vs. rating info

i assumed the fielding/error #'s would supersede arm strength in CF (as all flyballs go there, etc), because arm strength is traditionally more important in RF
