New 2023 Season Start?

The reason I said that deGrom would be carded is based on the number of IP's needed in the past. The past couple of years SOM has lowered the number of IP's needed for a card from the historical 29.2 to the mid-20's.

None of the half dozen or so pitchers I looked at with less than 30 IP's has a price and all pitchers that I sampled over 30 IP's are priced.

So either they aren't done pricing yet or minimum IP's needed for a card has bumped back up. TBD. Soon!

So it turns out it was the latter. No pitcher has less than 31 IP's. deGrom had 30.1 last year.

Because the play testers determined his card was too good and it "isn't realistic" to allow him to have over 200 IP with that card.

Trying to prevent another 2021 deGrom. He belongs in the set.

But he actually did it for 80 innings and is a former top prospect and highly ranked pitcher.
I think this is a swing and a miss by the SOM powers that be.

I think it was probably more with "do you really want your highest priced pitcher having only 80 IP?"

Yes, he was in the regular rotation from July 4 on, and that was about half the season. He made 15 starts. Personally I think it could have gone either way, but I can understand why.

Woodruff. Two starts in April and then in then mostly in the regular rotation from Aug 6 on. He made about 1/3 of the starts for a rotation spot. Could go either way on this one, but probably would lean towards Unleashed. He only made 11 starts.

If you look at unleashed, 4 of the top 5 pitchers had 80 or fewer innings. Had to be a factor I would think....
