Let's "simulate" the 2024 season!

PostMon Mar 25, 2024 11:34 am

I've posted a 'private' league so that I retain some needed commissioner controls, but this is open to anyone:

This is an open league - code GGBHG. READ CAREFULLY! Get a taste for how your favorite team is going to do in 2024! We'll use the 2023 set, of course - but for your auto-draft you MUST select players from your chosen franchise's CURRENT 2024 40-man roster ONLY, per mlb.com on the day we auto-draft, except as specified in the next paragraph. For instance, Mets would be chosen from this list: https://www.mlb.com/mets/roster/40-man/. YOU CANNOT SELECT A FRANCHISE THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS ALREADY CHOSEN. If there is a trade or signing in MLB after we auto-draft, that will not apply. Unsigned and retired players not on a 40-man roster ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS LEAGUE.

You may also select up to ONE PLAYER ONLY FROM EACH OF THE SIX FRANCHISES that were not chosen for the league. I.e., you can have at most six players on your roster that are not on your franchise's CURRENT 40-man roster; if no one picks the Florida Marlins, all other teams may try to add up to one player from the Marlins, and so on for the six unused teams. I will not mark as ready for 48 hours after the league is full to give everyone a chance to adjust our draft lists based on which franchises were not selected.

Should be fun and interesting, let's try get this going in time for opening day!

Taken so far:
1. Philadelphia Phillies
2. Atlanta Braves
3. Los Angeles Dodgers
4. New York Yankees
5. AZ Dbacks
6. San Diego Padres
7. Chicago Cubs

Plenty of spots (17!) still left in this league… I’m willing to give up the Phils if it entices someone to join

nice idea, but probably better designed as a draft of team name (your team), because I gotta believe it's gonna be a "hard sell" to get someone to manage the A's, Chisox, Pirates, and whatever other teams basically suck in comparison

by filling all teams (or most of them), that's taking away the majority of good players available off one's own team (if that's even allowed), and basically making it virtually impossible for those inferior talented teams to compete evenly or competitively

granted, few people might end up with their favorite team in a non-guaranteed draft (to claim the team u wish, or by randomizer, etc.), but at least that's done fairly, and from that standpoint an even playing field, rather than just setting some teams up for guaranteed success (all the juggernauts already selected for example) and other for guaranteed failure ...ain't no GM in the world that's gonna lead the A's over the Astros, Dodgers, Braves,

don't mean to rain on the parade, just suggesting the bench could get mighty cold waiting for signups for those bottom feeding teams, and a different selection process would guarantee a full league, equal access to all teams (like a fair draft/selection process should), and accomplish mostly the same purpose (simulate 2024 season)

Only need 1 more team!!! (and you are permitted to enter more than one team, if you so choose)... Yes, the best teams are taken, but there are some interesting teams left like the Tigers and Mets... and might be fun to see if you can do anything picking up some free agents for your favorite (but not so strong) team.

1. Philadelphia Phillies
2. Atlanta Braves
3. Los Angeles Dodgers
4. New York Yankees
5. AZ Dbacks
6. San Diego Padres
