as the saying goes, you can never have too much starting pitching.

That's the theory I'd subscribe to in the FA draft, just not the prospect draft

I made my very first trade with Jerlins in this league in my inaugural year. he coined it as a “welcome to the league” type of trade.

he’s true to his word………I traded him Scherzer & I received Lindor was the meat of the deal. there might’ve been some other smaller parts but those are the two names I remember vividly. I believed, at the time, in his philosophy just slightly different in that an every 4th (now 5th) game starting pitcher can be sacrificed for an every day hitter who plays decent defensively. I figured build a lineup & bullpen first then worry about good starting pitchers later. of course, at the time, I had taken over a team with good pitching but absolutely NO hitting whatsoever. over the years my strategy has waffled in many directions so don’t consider this “insight” into my particular way of thinking.

The exact trade was:

mlbphan receives Manny Machado, Francisco Lindor Yasiel Puig Yasmani Grandal Mike Foltynewicz and Jerlins 2018 5th Round Spring Free Agent draft pick #60

Jerlins receives Maz Scherzer, Alex Wood, Orlando Arcia(P) and Andrew Benintendi(P)

My needs were an SP and an OF. Gave up arguably the best 3rd baseman at the time, and one of the better SS. I had excess at SS at the time. A few years later the trade was a win/win for both teams. Puig, Grandal, and Benintendi were pretty good back then. I think Foltynewicz was coming off an injury but was highly thought of.

We both gave up premier players, something rarely seen these days.

Was just looking over some of the past trades, this one was a bit wierd considering the circumstances that already existed...

Trevor Story for Corey Dickerson and Jose Fernandez. Fernandez had a monster card, if memory serves me correctly. I traded for him in another league as well with Chris (Big).

If I’ve learned anything over the years it’s that I’ve made good trades and bad trades,
banners fly forever and rebuilds are fun.

Can you please be careful when posting that match the previous post. Somehow the last two posts missed the correction that mlbphan had made.

Thanks.

I can think of two teams I specifically took over just because they were terrible and rebuild, even if it took a couple years.
