The article is more about position players but mentions that Pitchers have the same % of x-rolls to them a 1Bmen.

I think the difference pitchers only "exist" on the field for 216 PAs until their card has its 108. Batters "exist" in games for 1,946 PAs before their card gets 108 rolls on it. (They are 1/9th of the lineup that only gets 1/2 of the rolls. Pitchers are just 1/2 when they're pitching). So rather than 0.93% of 1,946 I think pitcher's defense only matters 0.93% of 216 per Card. That's 1/9th of 1B, not 1/6th like I (wrongly) came up with.

NERP is just per card and its 108 outcomes. Its about the value of the 4e22 or whatever over the course that the card produces its BR/NERP. So just 0.93% of 216 x-rolls against it. That's just 2 rolls vs 18 for a 1B.

How does one calculate defensive NERP?

Is it already calculated per player on DiamondDope? I don't think I've seen it, if so.

(It's probably explained elsewhere in this forum, but trying to use the search tool here is a waste of time. Be good to have that explained in this same thread. Thank you.)

Thanks for the clarification, Nels. It sounds like what you refer to as Berce was the PDF written by Dean Carrano a number of years ago. Yes, that was a very interesting analysis.

This discussion about pitcher fielding led me to create an experiment team with all "perfect" pitchers:

Minus hold ratings, 0 balk, 0 wild pitch and all a 1e0 or 2e0 fielding rating.

There are only about 25-30 pitchers that actually fit that bill, so pickings were kinda slim and I went with super high quality defense behind them, so this will be interesting.
