Re: Hit v Pitchers 90s Draft complete! Teams loading

PostFri Jul 26, 2024 1:32 pm

Games played: 6

East--hitting centric--no pitchers over $3 million-range rating of SS, 2B and CF must be 8 or more at all times

Modern Day Cowboys: KaiserWill4 is leading this club--this is his second 90s team and 5th mystery league team overall. The Kaiser is looking for his first playoff appearance. The Cowboys are off to a 5-1 start and lead the eastern division.

Key players: Jeff Bagwell, Jim Thome, Rickey Henderson, Paul Molitor, Tim Salmon, Jay Buhner and Ken Griffey Jr.
Defensive challenge: With Ken Griffey Jr. in Center, Kaiser is playing Paul Molitor (4) at second base and John Valentin (3) at SS to achieve the 8 range.

Interesting early result: Ricky Bottalico has already saved 3 games and has not allowed a run in 3 innings.

Skyrockets in Flight: Burley Norseman leads this hitting centric club. Burley had led 5 teams from the 90s set and has a winning percentage of .533 although he is still seeking his first championship. Skyrockets are off to a 3-3 start.

Key players: Rafael Palmeiro, Craig Biggio, Cal Ripken Jr. Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Shawn Green, Jose Canseco

Defensive challenge: Sammy Sosa is patrolling center field (4) for the club

Interesting early result: The team is playing in Coors Field and has already hit 21 home runs in the first 6 games. Barry and Sammy have only combined for 3 of the 21 so opponents might be in for some tough games when those two get hot at the plate.

Supernatural Slayers: Nol15736—Nol is coming off a championship in the 60s 1.5 team challenge and leads his 36th team from the 90s mystery set. Nol has reached the playoffs in over 25% of his teams and has 2 championships in this set. The Slayers lead the league in runs scored with 58 —an average of just under 10 runs per game. The Slayers are 2-4 after 6 games.

Key players: Edgar Martinez, Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez, Kirby Puckett, Manny Ramirez and Wade Boggs

Defensive challenge::Eric Young (4) will be patrolling 2nd base most of the time for the Slayers.

Interesting early result: Jason Giambi is off to a great start—.478/.613/.957. Wade Boggs has already drvien in 10 runs and Alex Rodriguez has driven in 9. Jason has already walked 8 times.

Frostbite Falls Tormentors: NewGuy1912 leads this club—NewGuy is leading his third team using the 90s set and is seeking his second championship in this set. The Tormentors are off to a 2-4 start .

Key players: Jason Kendall, Mark Grace, Ryne Sandberg, Chipper Jones, Matt Williams Larry Walker and Juan Gonzalez

Defensive challenge: Chipper Jones is handling the SS position (4) and Larry Walker is in center field (3). Interestingly, NewGuy has “1”s at the other three infield positions—Mark Grace, Ryne Sandberg and Matt Williams.

Interesting early result: The team is off to a slow offensive start—Darryl Strawberry looks to be off to a good start leading the team with 7 runs batted in. Ben McDonald is 0-2 with an ERA of 17.57 and a WHIP of 3.15. Ouch

Central—2 pitching centric teams—for those teams, maximum salary for hitters is $3.5 and must keep at least 2 pitchers on roster with salary of $1 or less. Hitting team rules described earlier apply to the 2 hitting centric teams.

Charlie Brown All Stars: The venerable LM Bombers leads the club—LM has led 61 teams in the 90s leading 6 to championships and has landed in the playoffs 19 times—about 1/3 of the seasons. The Stars are tied for the league best record at 5-1

Key players: Fred McGriff, Jeff Kent, Nomar Garciaparra, Moises Alou, Albert Belle, Brian Giles and Paul O’Neill

Defensive challenge: The only hitting centric team without a 4 or a 1 at the key positions, Brian Giles (3) and Jeff Kent (3) will handle the key positions of CF and 2B.

Interesting early results: Randy Tomlin tossed a complete game 3 hitter in his first start. The All Stars have a very impressive run differential of +34 after the first 6 games. Nomar is off to a great start—.448/.500/.966 with 12 runs batted in in the first 6 games.

Offenseless Outlaws: Drabb9529 is at the helm for the Outlaws—Drabb has led 9 90s teams leading 2 to the playoffs and is seeking his first championship in this set to go along with his 3 other titles. The Outlaws are 3-3 after 6 games.

Key players: The first pitching team we are covering, the starting staff consists of Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina, Bret Saberhagen and David Cone. The bullpen feature Trevor Hoffman, Ugueth Urbina and Duane Ward.

Interesting early results: Mike Mussina is 0-2 but has an ERA of 2.38. Offensively, Stan Javier is off to a nice start at .350/.409/.450. The team ERA is 5.37 which will likely come down as the season goes on.

Blueprint for Armageddon II: JJB92 leads the club which is 3-3 after the first 6 games. JJB92 has led 9 teams using the 90s set—5 made the playoffs and 2 captured a championship.

Key players: The starting staff consists of Pedro Martinez, Jimmy Key, Andy Benes and Bruce Hurst—Mike Morgan and Bud Black are also on the roster but have not yet pitched.

Interesting early results: Pedro is 2-0 but has an ERA of 5.14/WHIP of 1.50. Andy Benes had a tough start—his ERA if 54.00 after allowing 6 runs in 1 inning. The team ERA is 6.75—not a positive sign for the pitching centric club.

90s-All in Hitters: Cabrera24 leads the hitting centric club. Cabrera has led 48 clubs—11 made the playoffs and 2 have delivered championships. The hitters are off to a 1-5 start.

Key players: Mike Piazza, Mark McGwire, Jeff Cirillo, Vinny Castilla, Derek Jeter and Raul Mondesi provide the offensive firepower. Tony Gwynn and John Kruk were just added to the roster after game 6.

Defensive challenge: Jeff Cirillo (3) is playing second base while Eric Davis (3) and Ellis Burks (3) are handling CF

Interesting early results: In the previous 60s based league, Cabrera24’s club did not get swept in any of the 54 series played—a very impressive feat. So, guess what happened in the first series? Yes, the Hitters were swept by LM Bombers and the Charlie Brown All Stars. Frank Thomas and Greg Vaughn were both released after getting off to slow starts. Raul Mondesi is off to a great start at .556/.579/.722

West division---Pitching centric teams—

Mookie Blaylock—MemphisJohn leads the team named after the original name of Pearl Jam and the former NBA player. The team is aptly managed by Mother Lovebone—one of the earliest bands hailing from the Seattle rock scene of the 90s. Memphis has led 5 teams from the 90s, making the playoff once although he’s still seeking his first championship. However, Memphis has an impressive 17 championships when considering all Strat games. Mookie is off to a 4-2 start.

Key players: The starting staff is Roger Clemens, Mark Langston, Dave Steib and Doug Drabek. The bullpen includes Mariano Rivera and Rob Dibble.

Interesting early results: The staff is off to a great start with an ERA of just 2.41 and are tied for the fewest runs allowed with just 19 runs crossing the plate while Mookie is in the field. Dave Nilsson (.409/.462/.636) and Joe Randa (.438/.471/.688) are off to impressive starts.

Houston Fireballers: YCBill is at the helm of the Fireballers who play in the Astrodome. YC has led 9 teams from the 90s, 3 made the playoffs and one earned the championship trophy. YC has played 413 total Strat leagues and has won 36 championships. The Fireballers are also 4-2, tied for the division lead.

Key players: Kevin Brown, Tom Glavine, Ramon Martinez and Dwight Gooden lead the rotation. Jeff Shaw and Bryan Harvey lead the bullpen.

Interesting early results: Johnny Damon is off to a great start—.412/.389/.765. That’s not a typo—Johnny’s OBP is lower than his batting average. In addition to the rotation pitchers listed above, Kirk Rueter was given a start in game 3—Kirk responded with 7 innings pitched, walking nobody and only allowing 1 run. Bryan Harvey has already pitched 11 innings—no walks and 12 strikeouts.

70s style Pitching and Defense: The club is led by Davesodu—Dave has led 9 teams using the 90s player set—3 made the playoffs and 2 were crowned champions. Dave has an impressive record in playoff games—he’s at 22-12 so when the teams make the playoffs, they are a force. The club is 3-3 after 6 games.

Key players: Greg Maddux, Curt Schilling, Dennis Martinez, Kevin Appier and Frank Viola form the starting staff. Billy Wagner, Troy Percival, Rick Aguilera and John Wettleland are key bullpen arms.

Interesting early results: Greg Maddux has started 2 games—he’s gone 18 innings allowing just 6 hits and 6 walks. No runs have been scored while Greg is on the mound. Impressive? Well Curt Schilling has gone 16 innings allowing just 1 earned run. He’s allowed just 10 hits and 1 walk while striking out 18. However, he is 0-1 while Greg is 2-0. The club isn’t hitting—the team batting average is .216—OBP is .270 and slugging is .330.

PED Enhanced Pitchers: DWG has led 38 teams in the 90s set—11 have made the playoffs and 2 captured the championship crown. The pitchers are off to a 1-5 start.

Key players: John Smoltz, Sid Fernandez, Jose Rijo Chris Bosio and Steve Avery have all started games for the Pitchers. Dennis Eckersley and Jeff Montgomery lead the bullpen.

Interesting early results: The team ERA is an impressive 2.17. However, Dennis Eckersley has blown two saves and is still looking for his first save. Offensively, the team is just above .200 at .201 and the club has scored just 14 runs over the first 6 games. The team has 3 home runs and no player has knocked in more than 3 runs.

A look at the best performing and most disappointing performance thus far amongst the 4 players selected via the message board draft

Skyrockets:
Good pick! This is a tough one but Barry Bonds barely gets the nod over Rafael Palmeiro. Barry’s numbers are .330/.434/.716 with 10 home runs and 8 stolen bases.

Hmmm..that’s not going as planned: Since Rafael and Cal Ripken Jr. are both putting up very impressive numbers, the award goes to Sammy Sosa. He’s gotten hot lately but is only at .245/.305/.443 with 6 home runs and 15 RBI.

Cowboys: Good pick! Ken Griffey Jr. is off to a decent start—he’s at .270/.341/.565 with 8 home runs and 18 RBI.

That’s not going as planned: Mickey Tettleton was released after 87 plate appearances. Mickey’s crime? .178/.307/.303. Jorge Posada replaced Mickey on the roster.

Slayers: Good pick! Manny Ramirez is tied for the league lead in leads the league at an impressive 1.275. His slash line? .385/.477/.798 with 13 homers and 24 RBI.

That’s not going as planned: Edgar Martinez is no longer a member of the Slayers? His performance? 71 at bats produced a slash line of .200/.268.400 with 3 home runs. Kevin Mitchell took over for Edgar.

Tormentors: Good pick! None of the 4 chosen have been overly impressive (Sandberg, Jones, Walker, Kendall) but Jason has the best overall numbers. He’s at .282/.339/.385 but has already made 5 errors with a e rating of 3.

That’s not going as planned: Larry Walker has struggled—he’s at .257/.291/.297 with 1 home run and 9 RBI.

Outlaws: Good pick! Despite a 2-4 record, Mike Mussina has excellent numbers. He’s pitched 40 2/3 innings with only 6 walks. His ERA is an excellent 2.66 and WHIP of 1.08.

That’s not going as planned: The flip side of Mike Mussina—David Cone is 4-2 but his ERA is 4.43 with a WHIP of 1.50.

All Stars:Good Pick! Brian Giles is tied with Manny Ramirez for best OPS at 1.275. Brian is at .417/.515/.759 with 7 home runs and 21 RBI.

That’s not going as planned: Jeff Kent is off to a tough start—he’s at .204/.269/.367. Jeff has driven in 16 runs but is now injured for next 8 games.

All In Hitters: Good Pick! Derek Jeter as the other 3 (Mike Piazza, Mark McGwire and Jeff Cirillo) have disappointed owner Cabrera24. Derek is at .300/.383/.380 with 19 runs scored.

That’s not going as planned: The other 3 draft picks have struggled mightily—Jeff Cirillo was released and replaced by Lou Whitaker. Still, Mark McGwire has been even more disappointing—he’s at .189/.371/.456 with 8 home runs.

Armageddon II: Good pick! Garret Anderson was the 4th round pick—he’s contributed .316/.356/.469 with 6 doubles and 13 RBI.

That’s not going as planned: Pedro Martinez was the first selection in the draft. Pedro’s numbers? 3-3 with an ERA of 5.28 (!) and a WHIP of 1.39. Probably a safe bet that Pedro is on his worst year.

Pitching and Defense:

Good Pick! (Maybe best performing pick thus far) Greg Maddux—Greg is 5-0 with an ERA of 1.24 and WHIP of .90. Highly impressive.

That’s not going as planned: Fernando Vina was the 4th round selection—he’s at .221/.302.244 with only 5 runs scored in 92 plate appearances.

Fireballers: Good pick! The fireballers used 3 of their 4 picks for position players (Edgar Renteria, Dan Pasqua and Johnny Damon) but Kevin Brown is at 1-1 with an ERA of 2.25/WHIP of 1.15

That’s not going as planned: Edgar Renteria is struggling—he’s at .170/.218/.223.

Enhanced Pitchers: Good pick! Dennis Eckersley edges out John Smoltz—Dennis has saved 7 games but has blown 3 games. He’s only walked 1 batter in 19 innings and has an ERA/WHIP of 3.32/1.00

That’s not going as planned: While not horrible, third round pick Jose Rijo is 2-2 with an ERA of 4.10/ WHIP of 1.25. Not horrible numbers, but DWG likely expected more playing the first 18 games against pitching centric division rivals.

Blaylock: Nice pick! Rob Dibble has an ERA of 1.59 and a WHIP of .53. However, Rob has only pitched 5 2/3 innings.

That’s not going as planned: Even though Mariano Rivera has an ERA of 6.00 and a WHIP of 2.22, Chili Davis gets the nod. Chili was released after putting up .061/.161/.061 in 55 plate appearances. Charlie Hayes replaced Chili on the roster.

Re: Hit v Pitchers 90s Week 5 results

PostFri Sep 06, 2024 1:06 pm

Games played: 132

Games played between pitching and hitting centric team: 414

Pitching centric wins: 186—win percentage 45%
Hitting centric wins: 228 win percentage 55%

The hitters maintained their lead and now hold a 42 game lead in the season series. With the completion of inter-division play, the hitting centric clubs will emerge with the season series.

KaiserWill4 and his Modern Day Cowboys have tied Davesodu and his 70s Style Pitching and Defense club for the best record in the league. The teams both have a record of 77-55 and the Cowboys now have the league best run differential at +106. It was a tough week for the Pitching and Defense club—run differential moved from +80 to +42 during the week. However, the club still maintains a very comfortable lead of 15 games in the division race.

East—hitting centric teams

KaiserWill4 and his Modern Day Cowboys still lead the very competitive division where all teams are 6 or more games over .500. .

Modern Day Cowboys: KaiserWill4 77-55 (13-8 for the week) +106
Supernatural Slayers: Nol15736 71-61 (10-11) +12
Skyrockets in Flight: Burley Norseman: 71-61 (12-9) for the week) Run differential +68
Frostbite Falls Tormentors: NewGuy1912 69-63 (10-11 )—+39

Central—mixed

An ongoing battle for first—LM Bombers and his Charley Brown All Stars are once again tied with JJB92’s Blueprint for Armageddon II for the division lead.

Charlie Brown All Stars: LM Bombers 67-65 (10-11) +39 Hitting
Blueprint for Armageddon II: JJB92 67-65 (11-10) -58 Pitching
90s All In Hitters: Cabrera24 62-70 50-61 (12-9) -42 Hitting
Offenseless Outlaws: Drabb9529 61-71 (12-9) -78 Pitching

West—Pitching

70s Style Pitching and Defense Davesodu 77-55 71-40 (6-15) +47
Houston Fireballers YCBil 2 62-70 53-58 (9-12) -18
Mookie Blaylock MemphisJohn 60-72 (10-11) -22
PED Enhanced Pitchers DWG 48-84 (11-10) -88

A look at some statistical results:

Number of hitters with OPS over 1.000: 6

Manny Ramirez from the Supernatural Slayers continues to lead the league with an OPS of 1.064

Team with the most hitters with OPS over 1.000: Modern Day Cowboys-Tim Salmon (1.017) and Ken Griffey Jr. (1.009) and Supernatural Slayers—Manny Ramirez and Jason Giambi (1.005)

Pitchers with ERA under 3: Remains at 6
Best ERA—starters: Greg Maddux 70s Style Pitching and Defense: 2.03

Pete Schourek: Modern Day Cowboys 2.81

Best ERA-relievers: Jeff Montgomery PED 67 innings pitched—ERA of 1.58
Bryan Harvey Houston Fireballers 76 innings pitched—ERA 1.91

Team home runs:
Skyrockets in Flight: 297

Charley Brown All Stars: 220

Highest scoring team: Skyrockets in Flight 827 average 6.27

Lowest team ERA

Mookie Blaylock: 3.55 1.23
Houston Fireballers: 3.57 1.30

Highest ERA: Supernatural Slayers--5.47/1.58

One of the elements of the league required pitching centric teams to play in a pitcher friendly park and the hitting centric teams play in a hitter friendly park.

Here’s a look at how teams have performed on the road and at home.

Modern Day Cowboys—Wrigley Field: 43-23 34-32
Skyrockets in Flight—Coors Field 40-26 31-35
Supernatural Slayers—Cleveland Stadium 40-26 31-35
Frostbite Falls Tormentors-Fenway Park 43-23 26-40

Charley Brown All Stars—Riverfront Stadium 40-26 27-39
Blueprint for Armageddon II-Three Rivers Stadium 36-30 31-35
90s All In Hittes—Skydome 31-35 31-35
Offenseless Outlaws—Shea Stadium 30-36 31-35

70s Style Pitching and Defense—Comiskey Park 38-28 39-27
Houston Fireballers—Astrodome 26-40 36-30
Mookie Blaylock—Turner Field 29-37 31-35
PED Enhanced Pitchers Pro Player Stadium 27-39 21-45

Interestingly, 4 of the 6 pitching centric clubs have better road records versus home records. None of the 6 hitting teams are better on the road versus their home stadium. The Frostbite Falls Tormentors are 17 games better at home while the pitching centric Houston Fireballers are 10 games better on the road.

Here are the slash lines/pitching (ERA/WHIP) for the clubs at home and then on the road.

This data is consistent with expectations—all hitting teams had better hitting results at home versus the road and (almost) all pitching teams had lower ERAs/WHIPs at home. Skyrockets (Coors) and Supernatural (Cleveland) have the most extreme offensive difference at home. Mookie Blaylock has a slightly higher ERA/WHIP at home versus on the road. Here are the specifics
