Mystery Card Blues

PostThu Jul 11, 2024 2:07 pm

I enjoy the mystery league format; in fact, that's all I play. However, probably the most frustrating thing is when you seem to get the same stinky year from certain players. I know it's just random and through sheer randomness, this will happen. This is especially true when you tend to target the same players.

Of course, when another player seems to get his best year way more often than would be expected, I'm perfectly fine with that! :D

I often try Belanger in both the 60s and 70s but I never seem to get a good year from him Too bad because I am a big Orioles fan of that era. Also it’s so funny that he was a big time smoker. I don’t think we see that anymore. On the other side, Coco Crisp in the 2000s always overperforms for me and he’s always available even in a 24 team league.

I don't pick him very often, but I have never gotten a good season from Reggie Smith.

70's - almost always have to release Fred Lynn and Bobby Murcer. It's always hard for me to hit on CF.
I used to try Seaver or Matlack but now always avoid them.
Catfish Hunter and Don Buford seem to like playing for me.

I've tried Seaver and Matlack, but they don't perform well for me.

yes, It can definitely be frustrating when you keep getting the same underperforming years from players you target, especially when you're putting in effort to strategize strands hint

I've only had 7 teams in the 70s but my thoughts - Gaylord Perry & Steve Hargan seem to always have good years. Don't think I have ever had the '78 Guidry card. Mike Epstein has a good '69 card that I have never had on my team. Graig Nettles supposedly had 37 HRs in 1977 but I never see that result.
