But I look at the play-offs as separate from the regular season, and think that two separate championships should be recognized. One team for winning the World Series, and another for having the best record in the regular season. A team that prevails over the course of 162 games with the best record of 30 teams should be given a trophy and recognized as a Regular Season Champion. The play-offs seeding the 12 (or preferably 10) best teams resulting in a World Series Champ is a separate one-month tournament involving different strategies.
I'd prefer 4 divisions, 7 or 8 teams each. American and National leagues with 15 teams each, or East and West.
Each Division winner from each league plays a best of 7, League winners play a best of 7 WS. Why hasn't anyone ever thought of 2 divisions in each league and 2 levels of playoffs?
