Money to spend on...?

PostThu Nov 28, 2024 12:17 pm

Not sure of best way to spend the $1.35 sitting in the bank. Bunch of areas seem like they would benefit from an upgrade.

https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1791254

Better to sit on that cash until later in season and use when necessary for an injury? Or, spend now to upgrade? But if so, where?

Any suggestions and advice much appreciated and Happy Thanksgiving!

Biggest need is to Dump Keller and get a decent RP2-you do not want him coming in as RP
Better backup to Judge and/or Lopez would be my second choice.

that cash depreciates after games # 40 and 80....because you'll lose 5, 10, or 20% dropping other players...I wouldnt sit on that extra money, find somewhere to put it, ideally before season start, but definitely before game 40...and also consider you are playing other teams likely fully invested, so its hurting your team each game

Thank you for the helpful info. Judge was just injured for 10 games, and we lost next 2 games after his injury by 1 run each. So I can see the benefit now to having a better backup for him.

Brad Keller, Daniel Lynch, and Aroldis Chapman have all gotten off to poor starts thru 12 games, so looking to cut them for better pitching. Just not sure for who yet. So many team needs... so little money.

I didn't realize it would hurt the team to have unspent money, but looking around the league can see all 11 other teams have hardly any unspent money.

It's a lesson learned on your part. Spend all of your $ during the pre-season. Don't fall into the trap of cutting players during the season. Otherwise, like BFW said, you'll be playing with a squad worth less than the max while everyone else is near $80M. I agree with Scumby. You need to get rid of Keller. Spend the $1.35M on his replacement rather than spreading it among 3 players.

You've only played 12 games. That's not enough time for Lynch or Chapman to prove themselves.

Framber's first start didn't work out to well. But don't drop him like you did Lynch. Give these guys a chance.

You need to get rid of Keuchel. Drop him for a $.50 SP. Then, "Set Your Default Rotation" using your 5 best SP's so the 50 cent guy will stay benched all season. Keuchel has already started one game. You don't want that. Also, his R3 rating means that when HAL puts him in, he'll stay on the mound for awhile. In relief, he's given up 7 runs in 8 innings.
You don't want that either.

Thank you Palmtana for the feedback. A disappointing first game for Valdez and opening 0-3 series for my Roykees after making roster changes. Switched from Lynch to Valdez cause his card looked a bit better after counting up factors that seemed important, but not positive that I identified the most important pitcher factors, or even counted the cards correctly. What I came up with was -

-----------------------LYNCH----------VALDEZ
K----------------------2/10------------34/28
GBA-------------------0/0-------------0/12
Hold------------------+6---------------+1
Endurance-----------S5---------------S6
Balance--------------5L---------------2R

Was thinking it's better to have a LHP-2R than a LHP-5L, since most MLB hitters are righty. Plan to keep Valdez going forward, for sure.

In putting team together during preseason, one factor I didn't give enough consideration too was player injury ratings. Judge-Inj4 went down for 10 games and I had nobody to fill in, so picked up Will Brennan. But now Anthony Rizzo-Inj4 went down for 15 games and only have Curt Casali 4e30 and Nicky Lopez 4e25 eligible to fill-in at 1B.

Since Rizzo is likely to go down some more this season, was thinking of dropping RP Dallas Keuchel for one of the following available .50 backups at 1B -

4e13 Eduardo Escobar, plus 3B 3e21, 2B 4e4, SS 4e48
4e23 Eric Hosmer
4e22 Mark Vientos, plus 3B 4e28
3e6 Wil Myers, plus RF 3e7 +0
4e3 Jonah Bride, plus 3b 4e14
4e20 Luke Voit

Which one of those .50 1B do you rate as the best? I'm hoping that going from 12 to 11 pitchers will increase use of Chapman, who only has 7.1 IP so far.

Or maybe...?

1B 4e25 Oswaldo Cabrera, plus L/RF 3e2 -2, 3B 4e13, SS 4e72, 2B 4e47

One concern I have with dropping Keuchel is he's the only R4 player on the team. Rest of the bullpen are five R1 and one R2. Is that enough R players?

Other eligible 1B with a drop of Keuchel are:

2e2 MIchael Toglia, also RF 4e10 +0
3e20 Mike Brosseau, also 3B 3e56 and 2B 4e8
4e6 Michael Chavis, also 2B 4e3, 3B 4e37, and LF 4e16 +1
4e8 Trey Mancini, also RF 5e6 +0
4e9 Alec Burleson, also L/RF 5e3 -1
4e9 Jon Singleton
4e12 Jake Cave, also L/RF 3e4 -2 and CF 4e4
4e22 Jake Bauers, also R/LF 4e12 +1

I would use Keuchel's $ and your cash to get a sub greater than .50. Those ultra-cheap guys rarely have a redeeming quality. In order to increase a RP's IP's, set them to middle man and setup. Chavez and Chapman on your team. Restrict Erceg and Long. Don't enter before 8th and quick hook.
