Thanks...what do you notice when you do that? Anything?

Someone said Infield In reduces double plays. Is there anything to that?

As I understand it, it increases the fielders range by 1, thus increasing the chances of a hit, and thus, less DPs, but a better chance of cutting off the guy on 3B.

Whoa, reduces fielding range of every infielder by 1? :o

That's punitive. You figure you spend a premium to get a guy with the best range rating, only to have it reduced by 25% just by having Infield In.

The reaction there would be to turn off the setting entirely, but you can't. You can only shorten the number of innings where Infield In is in effect, with the 9th inning being the shortest....the exact inning I would most not want my infielders' range reduced!

UPDATE: I guess I should have read the rules: https://365.strat-o-matic.com/help/rule ... anstrategy

- What do the "infield in" options mean?
This setting simply represents the earliest inning in which, with an opposing baserunner on third and less than two outs, you would be willing to pull your infield defenders in. This maneuver increases the chance of holding the runner at third but also increases the chance of a bloop hit through the drawn-in infield.

I'll be honest - I see no evidence in game replays that any of that happens. And wouldn't you rather have the control to set the Infield In based on the game score, rather than the inning? Kinda silly!

southpaw

if Im not mistaken, we don't have the option/choice to set the infield in or not after the 6th inning....seems we have to choose between inning #1 up to inning #5

am I incorrect ?

You are correct, you can only select 1st-5th innings. Assumedly, they are automatically pulled in for the 6th-9th innings.

Ok well thanks, men. I've never used the Infield In dropdown to choose a later inning than 3rd, only an earlier one.

So what does it do? In the board game, there are gbA+ results on the hitters card that turn into SINGLE** with Infield In. Those "+" are visible on player cards in ATG. Are they used, do you know?

Me too! And the 5th inning is too early, IMHO.

Getting back to the original topic, I think a core problem with defensive subs in ATG is that the opposing offenses are so good that no lead is safe--and a small lead is perilous! If HAL brings in a defensive sub with a 2 run lead in the 8th, the chances of your team losing that lead are much greater than in real MLB. So, I'd rather have Kiner's bat still in the lineup to get the lead back than a better glove in there for an inning or two.

I wish there was a "don't remove 4 def sub" button. I do frequently use "Don't PR for." Again, I'd rather have Kiner's bat in the lineup next time around than any pinch runner.

BTW, I am using Berra's recent 3.04M 1951 5L card in a 60M league as my starting catcher. (There are a lot of LHSP). My backup C is Zunino's .5M (2019). HAL keeps putting Zunino in as a defensive sub--which doesn't make much sense to me.

Berra's defense: c-1(-1)e3,T-17(pb-1)
Zunino's defense: c-1(-3)e6,T-10(pb-2)

Zunino has a better arm and fewer throwing errors, but Yogi is a 1e3 with fewer passed balls. Zunino may have a marginal defensive advantage, but Berra has a BIG offensive advantage. True, this hasn't cost me a game yet. And if Zunino (inj 3) goes down for 15 games, I have a bulletproof Yogi for those 15 games (at the price of an emergency catcher for the balance of that game). But it would be nice to be able to exercise a little more control.

The real question is WHY is HAL replacing him? If you don't have Zunino designated to come in as a defensive replacement AND you don't have Berra checked to be removed for a defensive sub, then he should NEVER be put in. And if that is the case, you should contact Start about it because it's an issue. Do you have Berra set to not be pinch hit for or avoid a side?

I don't have any special settings on Berra. And it does seem weird for HAL to be making a defensive replacement for a c-1(-1)e3 without an invitation. This is not Don Padgett (c-4(+3)e6), after all.
I will get in touch with SOM.
