Where's the "No Squeeze Attempts Ever!" setting?!

PostMon Nov 18, 2024 2:06 pm

We’re behind 7-6 with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th inning, tying run on 3rd, Hall of Famer Pie Traynor at the plate, Hall of Famer Al Simmons on deck. So many possible ways to score the tying run or keep the inning going: hit, sacrifice fly, error, fielder’s choice, balk, wild pitch, passed ball, walk, HBP. My bunting is set at “Extra Conservative”. And HAL calls for a %&#%@$& squeeze play?! By far, the worst possible choice in that situation?! Runner out at the plate, now 2 outs, man on 1st. Great chance to tie the game squandered. No runs. 7-6 loss. AN ABSOLUTELY BONEHEADED CALL!!!

Deja vu!

Bottom of the 9th, behind by one, a runner gets to 3rd base with 1 out on a single and an error. Great, now we have a decent chance to tie it up! A hit, an error, a sacrifice fly, a balk, a wild pitch, or a fielder’s choice could all score the run. A walk or HBP could extend the inning. But what happens? HAL calls for a squeeze play attempt! I have my bunting set on “Extra Conservative”, but HAL ignores that and decides on an extremely risky play with a best scenario of scoring a single run for the price of an out. Predictably, the play results in an out at home plate, leaving a man on 1st with 2 outs. The next batter strikes out to end the game. A ridiculous outcome.

Please fix this! Either stop attempting ANY squeeze plays when a manager sets his bunting for “Extra Conservative”, or better yet separate out a setting for squeeze plays specifically! Bunting a man over from 1st to 2nd with no outs is a completely different scenario from a squeeze play with a man on 3rd. They are totally different plays and deserve separate strategy settings!

Another squeeze attempt, this time with 1 out and the bases loaded in the top of the 8th of a 2-0 game. Pop-out to 1st for a DP, inning over. Bunting still set on "Extra Conservative".

George Burns is an "A" bunter. I don't mind the occasional sac attempt with a man on 1st, so I'm not going to set him to "Don't Bunt". He also hit 64 doubles in 1926, so I want him to swing the bat with men in scoring position!

There's a world of difference between bunting a runner over from 1st and attempting a squeeze, and Strat has got to figure out a way to split off those two strategies.

Do you have any of your individual hitter settings set for bunt?

I mark DON'T BUNT on the Hitter Settings for ANY Hitter of consequence.
My only starters who I allow to bunt are the ones who simply cannot hit...........
