Rule Interpretation Question

Do our "franchise prospects" count toward the 10 prospect cap? I would personally prefer that this player not count against this limit, but I am not sure if the current wording of the rules allows for that interpretation. For example, DC Irish would currently be over the cap with 11 total prospects unless the FP is exempted.

I actually JUST asked this same question of our commissioner, and he said yup, they count. If you decide you want to have a vote on a rule change to have them exempt from the "10", I'd be in favor of it for what it's worth.

Also, my roster is legal, for some reason Xavier Issac is listed both under my "tagged" prospect and my normal prospects, so I actually have 10, not 11.

I am glad that the prospect total incorrectly had you listed with 11, so that you did not have to potentially lose a player. Since we have at least two managers holding similar opinions on the matter, I will formally request a vote on the matter asking that said exemption be adopted.

Tar Heel, the rules CLEARLY state the number of prospects cannot exceed 10.

There is no “Exemption” - there is a franchise tag that enables managers to draft and hold ONE prospect indefinitely without having to promote him after two years.

I don’t see any reason for a rule change, but if you feel so inclined, please state clearly what it is you are proposing and we can put it to a vote. To me it sounds like you want to increase the number of prospects from 10 to 11.

I’m an engineer. I like order. I like even numbers. I HATE that the NFL has a 17 game season. I’m a NO. But it’s your (collective) league - not mine. You do what you feel you’d like to do.

Should a vote be held, it should be for 2026 and beyond. I'm not keen on any rule changes that could effect the upcoming season in any way, as in this proposal, which will have an effect on the present roster construction.

Tarheel's call, but I'd suggest:

10) "Prospect Franchising" -- Each team in our league has the option to designate one prospect as a "franchise pick." This designation would give the team that drafted the player exclusive rights to that individual in perpetuity, and exempt said player BOTH from the two year prospect call-up windowAND COUNTING TOWARDS THE PROSPECT ROSTER LIMIT allowing them to stay a prospect until such time as this prospect is: (a) traded to a different team, (b) released, or (c) activated as a carded member of the team's roster. This designation can be transferred immediately to another one of the team's prospects, provided that the previous designee has been traded to another team, released outright, or added to the 40-man roster as the result of being carded in the most recent player set. Adopted 1/29/24. (This sentence replaces the original rule wording: "When this designation expires, it cannot be reassigned to a new prospect until the conclusion of the next prospect draft conducted by the league.")

Think this is what Tarheel wanted, and technically can keep Sean's sanity in line by having "10" remain the official number of prospects (non-tagged) :)

Jerry, I absolutely agree. Nothing will change this close to card drop. Anything changes, it will be in ‘26

It is a minor concern that requires no urgency. I would never want to complicate things for the commissioner or disrupt the draft.
