Because of the salary penalty, many owners do not add/drop players, especially once the 5% penalty increase.
I find that in leagues where the ballparks are weighted extreme (either in terms of power/small ball/righty/lefty and/or dominance of righty-lefty hitters and pitchers, it sometimes pays to make adjustments when those factors become crystal clear).
It doesn't always work, but I had one team that I made changes to about 1/3 into the season, which was 10 games under .500, to coming back and winning the division and the championship. The league was heavily RH both in terms of pitching and power hitters, and I was in a small ball lefty park and was getting creamed. I switched out two starting pitchers that were LH, replacing them with two RH pitchers that gave few BP HRs to RH hitters, and added two RH hitters that featured strong natural HRs against RH.
And the team literally took off.
