Anyone Know how to tell if Trade Offers been Read?

PostSun Sep 02, 2012 1:55 pm

Is there a way to see if your trade offer has been read or not?
Since managers have a habit of not responding at all, would think this is very important?

This is the official response from the FAQ thread

Q: How do I know if a trade offer/message was read?
A: Right now you can’t. This could be considered a privacy issue as some users do not want others to know if they have read their mail or not. We do not consider this a bug as it was intentionally not put into place although we may reconsider this in the future.

Get real. Having a flag to indicate whether a trade offer has been read is not violating anyone's privacy. You are not reading anyone's private thoughts or emails. It is no different from a read receipt request when sending an email from outlook. We deserve better than a lame excuse like this for not fixing something that needs fixing.

How about this. Give us the flag. If the person receiving the trade offer does not want sender to know they have read the offer then they just don't read the offer. If they value privacy that much they should respect the privacy of the trade offer sender and not read the communication.

Try running a poll. I guarantee those in favor of having such a flag would dominate the poll. Unfortunately the improved boards do not have a poll function as the old boards did. So cannot actually prove this.

But how about a somewhat unscientific poll. How about everyone post here a one line either in support or opposition to having a flag to indicate whether a trade offer has been read?

And if there is by chance anyone who does want to keep hidden whether they have read a trade offer please give your reasons why you would want to keep the sender of the trade offer in the dark.

This one is a no brainer. Of course I want to know if my trade offer has been read, as it could make a difference in the roster moves I make. Plus, I'd want anyone who sent me a trade offer to know if I read it, though I usually respond quickly.

There is absolutely no reason to keep such info secret.

I fail to see why it is a privacy issue now when it wasn't previously. Plus, I highly doubt that anyone ever complained about others being notified that trade offers were read.

This should be an easy and quick fix.

Valen,

I totally agree with you. I sent an email to SOM yesterday about this very issue. I posted my email and SOM response on another thread. I sent them back another email with pretty much the same arguments you made here.

Read receipts are a common business practice. If it were an invasion of privacy, I am sure Microsoft would have been sued years ago and stopped including this feature in Outlook.

SOM should run a poll on this. I am pretty sure most would agree that they want this feature added back.

here is the MB thread for the email:

I vote for the flag and the rescind trade button. The flag is not a privacy issue. If someone wants to be that private, they wouldn't even join in any of the leagues in my opinion.

I want to be able to see the other owners face when he reads the trade so I can gauge his interest. Is he laughing, or pondering? The app should fire up the camera (when available), record 10-12 seconds, and then send me a file with the video

The read receipt request is, however, just that: a request. The recipient has the option not to send it.

So far 3 in favor and one ambiguous response from mean dean.

I see your point about a person being able to not send the read receipt. That usually happens at work when the person is being asked to do some work and they want to be able to deny receiving the work request. Perhaps you could explain why someone would want to read a trade offer but keep the sender of the offer from knowing they have read it. And are you against trade senders being able to know if a trade has been read or just nitpicking my analogy of a read receipt?

Why would anyone want to keep it secret they had read a trade offer? Are they embarrassed they do such things as read trade offers? Are they such newbs they cannot tell the difference between trade offers and porn so they want to keep it secret they are depraved?

How about this? Give us the flag for knowing a trade offer sent has been read. If someone is ashamed for people to know they read trade offers then they can send an email at start of league letting everyone know they do not do such reprehensible things as read trade offers. Then the league will know not to tempt them by sending them offers. Problem solved all the way around for everyone. :D

Interesting there have been so few responses to this issue. I would have expected more.
Is it accurate to assume from the lack of discussion that most either do not want the feature of being able to see when your trade offers have been read or do not care one way or the other?

I think it is an invasion of privacy for any other owners to know which players are on my team!!!

Seriously, though. I received an email response from SOM, saying they will probably add this feature back at some point in time.

I would like to see a deleted message for when guys delete a trade offer instead of rejecting it or accepting it.
