Back to the 90s Keeper League Rules (Part 1 of 3)

PostMon Sep 24, 2012 1:34 pm

Back to the 90s Keeper League Rules

Initial season draft will consist of five rounds. The draft will be serpentine with the exception of Round 5, which will be reverse order of Round 1. Thus:

Rounds 1 and 3 draft order is 1 through 12.
Rounds 2, 4, and 5 draft order is 12 through 1.

Draft order will be determined by a randomizer.

There will be a 24-hour period after the league fills to allow managers to trade their draft position with another manager. Individual draft picks may not be traded--only one’s draft position. Trading positions will not affect placement in the league which will be as follows:

East: 1, 4, 7, 10
Central: 2, 5, 8, 11
West: 3, 6, 9, 12

Example: If manager #1 trades his pick with #5, #1 will still play in the East.

Managers will select four players and one unique stadium during the draft. The draft will be conducted on the Strat-O-Matic Baseball: '70s, '80s, '90s forum. The stadium may be selected in any round.

Managers are allowed to trade or cut their draft picks during the season. As soon as rosters are frozen near the end of the season, each manager will protect three players to carry over for next season. The manager selects any three players from his final roster.

As soon as each manager announces his protected players, a 1-round supplemental draft is conducted. Any non-protected player is eligible to be selected in the supplemental draft. (Rules for determining the order will be posted separately.) The draft is started during the playoffs; however, it won’t be completed until the season is over since the draft order is affected by playoff results. (Playoff teams have picks 9-12.)

There are some additional rules considering realignment, tie breaks, and the supplemental draft that will be posted separately since they won’t come into play until the season is over.

I am asking for a 4-season commitment. I won’t hold anyone to that. If you need to drop for personal reasons or for any reason, you are free to leave. However, I want each manager to plan for playing for four seasons.

Note: Your four drafted players should be placed last on your auto-draft card.

EDIT: Added the following basic settings:

$80 million
DH = yes
5/10/20
waivers = yes
advanced

EDIT: Added "of 3" to title.

Back to the 90s Keeper League Rules (Part 2 of 3)

These rules covers what happens at the end of each season.

Rule change effective after Season 4: the Eastern Division will be made up of the four playoff teams.

1. division winner
2. wild card
3. head-to-head
4. if only one team in East last year, they stay
5. run differential
6. coin flip

Central Division gets the teams with the next four best records.

The supplemental draft is ranked differently--partly to allow us to start it during the playoffs and partly because that how the pro football draft works. (I know; this is a baseball league!) Reverse order of win-loss records for the first eight places. Playoff teams automatically draft 9-12 as follows:

9. first-round loser with worst regular season record
10. first-round loser with best regular season record
11. finals loser
12. league champions

All ties resolved based on regular season (tie break "winner" picks last):

1. head-to-head
2. run differential
3. coin flip

Just to clarify: In the supplemental draft, the first eight picks are made by non-playoff teams.

Also, non-playoff teams may pick a new, unique stadium with their pick. If they do, can still pick a player, but their player gets picked after all other teams pick theirs.

Playoff teams may not change stadiums... Rule change: ...unless they forfeit their supplemental draft pick. In other words, a playoff team may elect to change stadiums or pick a player with their pick. A new stadium must still be unique.

New: Managers may trade stadiums between seasons.

Clarification: A manager must use his own supplemental pick to select a stadium.

EDIT: Added "of 3" to title.

EDIT: Added two rule changes.

EDIT: Added stadium swap rule and clarification about using your supplemental pick to select a stadium.

EDIT: Updated rules to indicate Eastern Division now consists of the four playoff teams.

Back to the 90s Keeper League Rules (Part 3 of 3)

PostThu Oct 04, 2012 8:07 am

Here is something about trading supplemental draft picks that didn't get into my original posts concerning the rules:

You can trade your supplemental draft pick for a keeper. However, trades involving supplemental draft pick(s) have to be even so when all is said and done, both managers have four protected players for the autodraft.

Examples:
my supplemental draft pick for Keeper Z (one of your keepers)
my supplemental draft pick and Keeper A for your supplemental draft pick and Keeper Z
my supplemental draft pick and Keeper A for Keepers Y and Z

A trade involving a supplemental draft pick cannot involve an unprotected player. (A protected player is a keeper or a player already selected in the supplemental draft.)

If you trade a keeper for a keeper between seasons, they should also be even. Of course, once the preseason has started, anything goes for trades. There are no restrictions trading keepers after the autodraft has been held and the league formed. For the integrity of this league's format, every team shall enter the autodraft every season with exactly four protected players.*

*Exception: If a playoff team picks a stadium with their supplemental draft pick, they shall enter the autodraft with only three protected players.

EDIT: Added "of 3" to title.

EDIT: Noted an exception that is now possible due to an earlier rule change.

The other link. Also check for Personal Messages (PM). We're finishing up Season 6 now, but we will start naming keepers shortly (which you're already done).
