What decade is the most forgiving for a first timer?

Hi all,
I used to play a lot of Fantasim when it still existed, and have been spending my $ on ATG recently, but I miss the mystery element.

Does anyone have a suggestion for which to try first - 70's, 80's or 90's?
(I don't see any open 90's leagues just private ones, and only 1 80's...do they start and fill fast?)
also what cap should I look to try given my lack of knowledge of the card sets/

I think the 80s should be avoided for a first timer because the pricing is very outdated. The experienced 80s vets know all the underpriced bargains and have a great advantage.

I actually think the 90s would be best to learn, but he 70s would be OK. I just dont like the 70s much at all.

The cap you'd want to play is 80mil. The leagues could take a few days to a week to fill. I'd say start in the 70's or 80's and read the thread on the boards here about how to read the cards.

The drawback to the 90s game, in my opinion, is that there are ALOT of guys with one good year-or one good platoon year. Spotting and picking these guys up quickly will, Initially, give vets an advantage.
I actually still like the 80s game the best but there is a wider discrepency etween playuer values.
The 70s might be the best to start with. Just one tip though- there are ALOT of excellent, but probably overpriced, pitchers - there are always several 6million+ pitchers on the waiver wire and they are pretty fungible so I would suggest not to waste a high draft pick on any expensive pitcher.

Thanks for the feedback. It looks like each decade has been suggested, and I will look for a 80 mil cap.

I'll plan to look at the player sets and then join or set up a league (then you'all can look for hackra in his first mystery slot...and hopefully my team will be competetive)
