It's a marginal downgrade. You're giving away a couple runs over 216 PA. Inefficient but not decisively so.

Currently have
Scenario A
LF 4.60m Bob Johnson 3(-3)e10
CF 5.29m Terry Moore 1(0)e2
RF 9.84m Al Simmons 1(-1)e3

I'm kicking around an offensive upgrade to Simmons 11.05m, necessitating the following alignment:
Scenario B
LF 4.60m Bob Johnson 3(-3)e10
CF 11.05m Al Simmons 2(-4)e3
RF 5.29m Terry Moore 1(0)e2

Is Scenario B a downgrade in my OF defense, or does the arm upgrade make the difference, as opposed to having 1's in CF and RF in Scenario A?

A 2 in CF versus a 1 will net about 8 singles and 4 doubles over the course of the season. While it would be nice having your strong arm in center, I'd rather prevent the hits.

However, Simmons 1930 hitting card is better than his 1929 card, so if you can afford the extra $1.21 million, I think I'd go that route. (Flip side is his 1930 card can get injured for more than three games at a time, so I give up analyzing this!)

According to NERP as above

Currently have
Scenario A
LF 4.60m Bob Johnson 3(-3)e10= 4.8
CF 5.29m Terry Moore 1(0)e2= -1.8
RF 9.84m Al Simmons 1(-1)e3= -0.7
Total Defensive NERP= 2.3

I'm kicking around an offensive upgrade to Simmons 11.05m, necessitating the following alignment:
Scenario B
LF 4.60m Bob Johnson 3(-3)e10= 4.8
CF 11.05m Al Simmons 2(-4)e3= 1.2
RF 5.29m Terry Moore 1(0)e2= -1
Total Defensive NERP= 5

So, scenario A is twice as good as scenario B in Defensive Runs Saved.
