Proposed season replay: 1994

The strike-shortened 1994 season would be an excellent candidate for online Strat play. Many individual players were on the verge of career-best and even record-breaking accomplishments. Matt Williams was poised to break Roger Maris' home run record, with Ken Griffey, Frank Thomas, Barry Bonds and Jeff Bagwell right on his tail. Tony Gwynn hit .394 and nine other every day players hit over .333. How fun would it be to play out a full season with those cards?

While the offenses raged, Greg Maddux posted a lights-out 1.56 ERA (he'd be everyone's #1 draft pick). The Yankees were back playing .600 ball and the Expos were having their best season ever - and the best record in baseball with a .649 winning clip!

Playing the '94 set over a full 162 games would allow each of us to take a hypothetical stab at the lingering "what might have been" questions. Could Williams or one of the others get to 62 homers? Could Gwynn get to .400? Could you win 30 with Maddog? Could you load your roster with Expos and win a world championship?

I'd really like to play the 1994 set. You?

Season replays get boring fast, as evidenced by how few people play 1986 & 1969. Fun every now and then, but that's about it.

I'd be for another mystery format instead

I know the support for an older decade wouldn't be as great, but a 50's or 60s mystery card game would be my choice!

I have called for the 1994 season in the past, and I love your idea! I purchased 1994 from Strat-O-Matic for many of the same reasons you list. I love Gwynn's card it is spectacular!!! And it would be a great season for us to be able to do replays. In fact I am doing a 1994 Cleveland Indians replay right now. I only manage the Tribe and I let the computer manage the rest of the teams. And incidentally I traded Albert Belle for Gwynn, I love Gwynn! Anyway, I would like to see that season here at TSN.

I am almost at the half way point in my 1994 Cleveland Indians replay and Lofton is hitting .450, Gwynn is hitting .409, and Alomar is hitting .382. They are 1,2, and 3 in the AL. I am not even doing the NL. Gwynn and Alomar became Indians for Albert Belle and Carlos Baerga.

1969 had no free teams and barely anyone plays. Same would happen after a few 1994 seasons.

If Bernie and TSN decided to put the 1994 cards into ATGV(?) then you could possibly do a full 1994 season replay AND people who play ATG can then include those cards when they/we play ATD....

Hmmm....
