Please Help this Shea Team

"Bob Wickman is going to kill you. He's 9R, and you might want that on the road, but HAL is going to see him quivering at the end of the bench, probably out of utter fear, and throw him to the wolves in the sixth inning - you know, like a kid with a magnifying glass torturing an ant. "

Funny Jd, very funny...

Who's going to close for you? I'd dump Seo, Inge, Wickman AND Grissom for a closer and possibly any of the hitters mentioned by JdEarly.

Luis Gonzalez would also make a nice cheap lefty DH @ Shea.

btw-If Inge was going to platoon w/ Koskie @ 3B, Alfonzo is a good, cheaper substitute.

I like most of those changes - Shields is a nice fit for Shea in middle relief. The only other change I'd make to optimize your lineups is to ditch Payton for a 1B/DH type that hits RHP better. Here's why:

1) I assume you are DHing Klesko and platooning Mientk. & Cabrera at 1b. Not a bad plan if so. Cabrera plays pretty much every position, so you don't really need Payton as 4th OF. Also assume that Ensberg platooning for you at 3B, which is ok but I'd prefer someone cheaper who plays both 1B & 3B in that role and who hits LH a little better.

2) Klesko has an injury roll at DH and Mientk. played a part-time role in 2004, so they will both be hurt some. You have 3B/1B vs LH covered by Cabrera and/or the Ensberg replacement, but 1B/3B vs RH will suffer a lot if you have Klesko & Mientk hurt. Ventura is a favorite of mine for that backup role, or Mackowiak at a higher price, but nice to have as he also plays the OF & steals a base or two.

Pratt is the ideal compliment to Mauer. Because Mauer will be hurt more than Laird, trust me...

Laird is worse than a pitcher vs. RHP.

Early returns on Laird/Mauer, with Mauer already having been hurt some....

Laird is no worse than any other lefty-killer $.50 player. It's all about how you invest the $$. If he sees 100 ABs vs RH in a year, is it worth it to sacrifice 50% productivity vs. a better backup like Pratt, so getting bad ABs in 50 ABs per year? Hell yeah, IMHO, because you probably guarantee 50 more ABs from Mauer vs RH than you would have gotten otherwise....

Above plan is doable Aray, but I wouldn't use Sierra. Shea is still BP HR 12 to LH hitters, which is not a ton. Coors would be different. I'd look for someone with a bit more in the way of hits.

Yeah, doing a little bit of experimenting here. I have been toying a lot lately trying to figure out the impact of wearing out my opponents' bullpens via a killer offense which knocks out the SPs early on a consistent basis.

Obviously my SPs here pretty much suck, and Bonds has been hitting out of his mind in the early going. But I got some premier OBP to hit in front of Barry on this team and a great guy to hit behind him in Mauer vs RH, so we'll score some runs....
