Back to Normal...

Postby The Last Druid » Sun Feb 26, 2006 12:35 pm

I recently went thru a prolonged streak where most of my teams sucked. I think it lasted from November thru the end of January. My winning pct. dropped about .004 which is huge given all the games I've played. Not sure why it happened but it was really frustrating. Just felt snakebit. Reading my boxscores began to feel like mental torture.

Finally, a few weeks ago things started to turn around. Before the great system crash I had been averaging about +20 a night (35 teams) for the month of February. I even had a night last week where I went 72-33. So now I've gone up .003 in the past three weeks, back to .539. I guess this could all be random variability. It probably is. I have made a few adjustments, largely in park usage but also in some of the manager settings and I suspect that this contributes something to my recent improvement.

Anyway, I utilized the down time the past few days to further analyze my teams, and also those of Frank Bailey. Of all the highly ranked managers on the ATG II TSN list, Mike seems to have the least formulaic approach to team composition. That he has experienced the success that he has is thus all the more impressive; it seems pretty simple to stick to the more formulaic approaches many managers use and the limited pool of 'acceptable' players most draft. Anyway, I did learn two things that may be of inestimable value from Mike's teams. Can't wait to implement them.

Bottom line is I wasn't really impacted by all the server issues this weekend. TSN served lemons, I tried to make lemonade. That said, I am glad they are up and running. The new servers definitely are faster. Looks like last night's games ran between 30-60 minutes faster than normal. So while I wouldn't mind a few free credits, I just wanted to express my gratitude to Bernie and co. for their enormous hard work getting things to work again.

I agree with the thanks to Bernie and crew. This had to be a difficult weekend for them. I hope the product is what they envisioned.

There are a few formulas I use -- about 37 of them, and they are all fair game for change on a whim.

If you learned something from your weekend of study that improves your game, we're all in trouble.

There's an old saying " She it happens " Yes it was inconvient but I have been on TSN for years now and that the 1st time anything that major has ever happened . The games definately ran quicker ...and with my 17 teams playing 9 games in one night (153) I actually had a better record than my normal (Dismal). 91-62 . I'll take it ! Maybe the "new" server will change my luck on this game :D Good job Bernie and crew .

.004? Puhleeze! I just try to stay over .500, which means trying to balance those teams I am going full bore with to win[no guarantee they will, of course] and my wildly amusing and often tragic theme teams. Unfortunately, due to a recent spate of teams in theme leagues of letters and regions, I have had a bunch of teams going simultaneously that are, shall we say, unfortunate? My +200 cushion which I like to maintain evaporated, and I was helpless to stop the bleeding. Finally, the fates smiled upon me. It is now my turn for the letters S,M, and C in the letter leagues... the three letters which have been the most successful. Oh well, my beloved ThunderingHerd! franchise leads their division at the halfway point, so there is always that......I would consider two possibilities for your recent dip. One, of course, is random variability, but since I slept through statistics, I can't say for certain whether this is mathematically possible. Second, boredom. I think it possible that after several teams, one invariably tries to push the envelope, using players and combinations which are new, and perhaps not as good as those used previously.
