hackra - except for a 2 range at SS it looks good to me, consider it done.

The minimum-error roster you proposed for East #1 is available for anyone who wants to use/tweak it.

WeatherNut - I believe the rosters you submitted for West #3 and West #4 are both positive clutch. Would you be willing to submit one for zero or neg clutch / poor hitting pitchers?

I am working on rosters to submit for Central #3 and #4 tonight.

[color=red:8b619fa461]Great! Too late to make a tweak, but considered dropping Kiner for Frank Thomas and Drop a backup for the extra $0.50 but it would move Babe Ruth to OF and make the OF defense too good for this theme[/color:8b619fa461]

I will look to put together some Central #3 and/or#4 squads also and perhaps PM them to nexrad tomorrow just for fun and comparison.

Poor fielding

Postby supertyphoon » Thu Jan 05, 2012 2:51 am

What constitutes "poor fielding" in SOM depends on how much you value defense on your teams, and the pain threshold you're willing to accept as a trade-off between scoring / preventing runs.

That being said, my personal definition of a "poor fielding" team would probably be 4 range at primary position 1B, 3B, LF and RF. 3 or 4 range at primary position C, 2B, SS and CF. Zero or positive throwing arms and at least 5 errors for C and OFs. At least 20-30 errors at 2B, 3B and SS.

Is Ruth or Williams a "poor fielder" at 3(-1)e 8 or 11 in LF and RF? I wouldn't hesitate to use either of them in LF or RF, but some may. All I'm saying is there are a lot of better choices for this type of team, such as Kiner 4(+1)e7 at LF.

Given the difficulty of reverse platoon rosters, could we allow those two teams some accommodation that would not compromise the exercise?

Something like 1 or 2 players rated E instead of reverse platooned?

question for Nexrad

Postby hackra » Thu Jan 05, 2012 1:53 pm

should I plan to modify the poor fielding great hitting squad above to get a 3+ range shortstop or leave it alone?

I could go with the 5.25 Arky Vaughn 3e29 instead of Appling

it would leave $2.34 on the table to ?upgrade pitching?

I'm thinking if so it would be to trade Dizzy Trout out for a $4.73 +/- pitcher ....improving a bit on the poor pitching. :?

I think Vaughan is a better choice at SS.

From this PDF file I refer to, it has Appling 2e32 hurting the defense by 3.0 runs, and Vaughan's 3e29 damage rated at 6.5 runs.

Looking at that table, it appears somewhere around 2.0 to 3.0 at each position is where a player's defense starts to hurt the team.
