Yankee Stadium '56 team

how does this team look? I'm planning on dropping Thomas @ CF for someone with a better avg/obp. (Combs is on waivers) Do I have enough OBP at top of lineup with Robinson & Rose or should I get another bopper?? My divison has Dunn, Huntington & Olympic. Need a First baseman too (dropped White) Considering Rosen, York or Hodges as a RH power bat to complement rest of lineup. Ojeda & Koufax are on my radar as a lefty starters. This is my second team so I could use the pointers. Thanks.

Couple of comments & I'll turn this over to the Yankee Stadium experts. I've yet to play there.

* it appears you're playing Jackie Robinson at 2b. I'd advise against that. Get a 1 at that spot.
* there are better options in your park than Battey at C.
* there are better options at 3b than Rose.
* I'd advise against playing Combs & his +3 arm in CF.

1 other tip: pre-waivers, I'd be careful about mentioning possible FA targets. People have been known to actually read these boards & may set their waiver priorities accordingly. Good luck!

The only true Yankee 56 guys on your roster are Yaz and Reggie, the rest are really expendable as they offer little unique value.

Suggestions:

C - May or Dickey
1B -Cash or Boog first then Murray or Ripper
2B - Whitaker with a RH cheap platoon or a glove guy
3B - Mathews or OBP guy
SS - glove guy or Honus is good
LF - Yaz is good
CF - maybe Dawson
RF - Reggie is good

SPs- get value pitchers that have few BRHRs on LH side, ideas include Kaat, Seaver, Sutton, Carlton

Koufax has 3 BPHRs on the LH side, Ojeda is too one sided. Pollett or Ford or Hubbell are better choices.

You want Even LH power or RH OBP. You also need one guy with high natural HR rate vs LHs, like Cleon, Dawson or Valentine.

Best of luck, sschu

I kinda specialize in using Yankee '56 and usually do pretty well there.

You need at least 3 LH SPs who are tough on LH hitters and have BP HRs on the right side of their cards. This is especially useful since you've got a Dunn in your division. Guys like McGregor, Kaat, Lolich, Cuellar, Blue are great values. Some people keep a RH SP to keep things honest, but I usually nab a 4th. Bennett is a great cheap spot starter and reliever at home and in Dunn. Of the guys currently on your pitching staff, I'd only consider keeping McNally and maybe Knowles as a roster filler.

A quick scan shows that Holtzman, McGregor, Blue, Hiller, Roberts, Heintzelman and M.Caldwell are all available--they're all good values in Yankee '56. The same goes for RPs such as Fryman (!), Lefferts (!), Tincup, Beggs, Staley and Lamp.

As for your hitting, you want at least 4-5 LH power hitters who hit both LH and RH pitching pretty well. A good LHP killer like Mays, Jones, Valentine is also advised. And decent defense helps as Yankee plays as a hitter's park. Yaz and R.Jackson are definitely keepers. One of either Robinson or Rose is OK, but I wouldn't keep both. You want as many LH mashers as possible.

Top hitters available and best suited for Yankee are Mantle, Ruth, Gehrig, Williams, Ott, Dickey, Keller, Slaughter, Avila, Canseco. I'd highly recommend going after either Mantle or Ott with your waiver pick. Fryman and Lefferts should also be top targets.

How about subbing Lolich for Thompson?
