I kinda specialize in using Yankee '56 and usually do pretty well there.
You need at least 3 LH SPs who are tough on LH hitters and have BP HRs on the right side of their cards. This is especially useful since you've got a Dunn in your division. Guys like McGregor, Kaat, Lolich, Cuellar, Blue are great values. Some people keep a RH SP to keep things honest, but I usually nab a 4th. Bennett is a great cheap spot starter and reliever at home and in Dunn. Of the guys currently on your pitching staff, I'd only consider keeping McNally and maybe Knowles as a roster filler.
A quick scan shows that Holtzman, McGregor, Blue, Hiller, Roberts, Heintzelman and M.Caldwell are all available--they're all good values in Yankee '56. The same goes for RPs such as Fryman (!), Lefferts (!), Tincup, Beggs, Staley and Lamp.
As for your hitting, you want at least 4-5 LH power hitters who hit both LH and RH pitching pretty well. A good LHP killer like Mays, Jones, Valentine is also advised. And decent defense helps as Yankee plays as a hitter's park. Yaz and R.Jackson are definitely keepers. One of either Robinson or Rose is OK, but I wouldn't keep both. You want as many LH mashers as possible.
Top hitters available and best suited for Yankee are Mantle, Ruth, Gehrig, Williams, Ott, Dickey, Keller, Slaughter, Avila, Canseco. I'd highly recommend going after either Mantle or Ott with your waiver pick. Fryman and Lefferts should also be top targets.
