A Moment of Silence Please

As we in Houston mourn what could have been last night. Down to 1 strike to win and go to the World Series, and Pujols finds a way to club us to death. There is no joy in Mudsville.... for mighty Lidge did not strike them out..... :(

Yes Coffee, not a good omen...2 run lead, 2 outs in the ninth, your "unhittable" closer on the mound....they couldn't ask for a more perfect situation to wrap it up!

Reminds me of the Yankees vs Diamondbacks a few years ago, when Rivera blew that save in the ninth inning...sometimes it just isn't meant to be!

I am a Cards fan and I even feel badly for you Houston fans. Oswalt will be tough to handle hopefully we can find a way to beat him because we all know that Clemens is a better RP in the playoffs that a SP. GL

I was selfishly happy as I have some money on the 'Stros in six.

Now if they blow it tomorrow...

I think if God played baseball, He'd be a lot like Pujols.

The talk around the water cooler today was why the Astros would even pitch to Pujols in that situation, but I can't find fault with that. Runners on 1st and 2nd, and "Lights Out" Lidge on the mound, you sure don't want to put the go-ahead run on base and move the tying run to 2nd. The fault wasn't Garner's, but as simple as a badly thrown pitch. A great shot among the many replays was that of Lidge bending over in agony the moment he released that pitch (Fox didn't focus on that and it wasn't commented upon during the telecast, but it was a great shot). He knew.

This is the type of thing that can turn a short series like this around. Having said that, as a Cardinal fan I am still concerned about having to face Oswalt and Rocket -- and likely a rested Lidge again. But the great thing about baseball is that it isn't over until it's over, as Yogi is reported to have said.

Now You Can Shout

I promise to keep my gloating over my St. Louis brethren to a minimum. When Pujols jacked that HR in game 5, I was sure that my Astros were DEAD.....

It is an incredible feeling to finally win a pennant after 44 years. It even feels better than when I won my first ring in ATGII. (Well, maybe.... )

Anyway, congrats to the Cardinals, who are probably the most fearsome team in baseball this year, and goodbye to Busch Stadium. It will be hard to see that place go. One thing you can say, St. Louis is one of the premier baseball cities in America....

I can't seem to wipe the silly grin off my face, though! I almost wore my Clemens jersey to work today, but definitely will do so tomorrow!
