Clark or McCovey?

Postby Simon31 » Thu Oct 20, 2005 9:36 am

In 'Yankee 27? I've had Clark before and his performance seems to be a bit on the erratic side. I have reservations about him. McCovey is available but I've never had him, nor have I played much in Yankee '27. Any thoughts? :?

Clark has always performed well for me. He will miss time with the injury thing though, so his big salary is somewhat risky. What does the rest of the division look like (ballparks, % of LHSP)?

Ballparks in the Division are West Side Park '06, Briggs '40, and Polo. Out of 12 potential SP only 3 are LH. The thing that relly bugs me is I only have 2 lefties in my starting lineup, Bowa (S) and Mathews.

Not much in the way of LH's still available in the FA either. This team needs something but I'm not sure what! :?

In Yankee Stadium, with BPHR 1-17, Jack will put up BIG numbers! He is one of my favorites....he is an injury risk, but so is McCovey, and Jack gives you a much better glove (esp in rf), GREAT OBP, slugging, etc....A great #2 hitter.....

With your "stud" pitching and great defense, this looks very much like a griffith team....not sure how well that works at Yankee, but will be interesting to find out!

I think Jack is the least of your worries. With Mathews from the left side and Clark from the right side, you have a potent one-two punch, and I love dawson here (or anywhere for that matter!). But you have real offensive liabilities in Bowa and Doerr, and to a lesser extent rettenmund. I would try to swap 2 of these 3 to improve my punch, since you are in a HR park. Perhaps.....

Rettenmund for Ennis (much more power, over 600 pa's, so can only go down for 3 at a time max....and seems to perform well in hitters parks)

I agree, it would be nice to get another left handed bat (or two!)....Maybe you could swap Doerr for Doran who is a switch hitter, a bit cheaper, similar fielder, and better obp

Pickings are pretty slim at ss and 2b, so no suggestions there. But I think Ennis over Rettenmund I would certainly do!

Ennis is a good hitter, but don't downgrade Rettenmund too far.

Rettenmund 0.297/0.532/0.362
Ennis 0.300/0.553/0.349

Ennis is a superior choice because of the injury factor, but the actual stats are pretty close....if you're facing more than 1/3 LHP, Merv is a legitimate option.

I agree Trey, just thought he could use a bit more pop, and an Ennis/Rettenmud swap is about his only real option with what is left on his FA wire.....
