Am I against this strategy, no.

Do I think it's gaming the game, yes.

BUT let's not be under the impression that it's an ineffective strategy.

I tried this too in a league wrapping up to see what would happen. My starters were tired all the time and underperformed. Plus I forgot to fix my per-game starters a couple of times and got pounded. I have a 1 game lead now, but if I lose it those extra losses are really goning to hurt. I wouldn't try it again. I mean, look at those pitchers in Forbes. ERA is way to high. Same with mine even though I'm in a power park. I think it's a poor strategy, at least the way I did it. Seems PBTR got it right though...

Oh it's definitely gaming the game.

As a matter of fact I think that was the name of that other team.

And like any other strategy, it CAN be effective, in the hands of a madman.

No DH right?

Doesn't work with no DH.

I'm pretty sure (read that, 'positive'...) that TSN would consider this gaming the game, since the strategy, if I understand it correctly, involves using the starting rotation to 'lock up' your crappy pitchers, then using the per game starters the whole season with the actual 5 guys you want to use. This came up in beta testing a while back, and if I recall, the decision was made not to try to put in more code to disallow it, but instead to hope that people would choose not to abuse the per game starters.

I'm not trying to say that I'm against some way of allowing a more 'deadballish' staff; but I'm not really a big fan of hammering on the game mechanisms to obtain an advantage.

To each their own. I "game the game" with about every seventh to tenth squad, it's not like I do it with every team.

If TSN wants to disallow it the solution is simple.

Require each team to carry at least 3 pitchers that are pure RP. They have already made this adjustment in the 69 game and also in that format they have removed the "S" designation from a bunch of pitchers to force managers to use them if they have them on their rosters.

Until then I am playing by the rules, I have no guity conscience whatsoever (about that at least...)

Even with the squad presented, I still fail to see the advantage. Give me Pete, Babe and Reubach to start with and I'll put the rest of the money to better use.

For example, does anyone think the package of Works, Fryman, Garber, Frock and Speer would not be an improvement over the 4th and 5th pitchers in that staff - for less money! If nothing else it would drop Pete and Babe's era's down a point or so.

Adams at almost a 3 ERA in griffiths with that defense behind him is not pitching effectively. Neither is Pete.

Look at his lineup, look at his top three pitchers - he should be winning - he's got a good team.

I have had dozens of similarly situated teams with better ERA's for less pitching dollars.

Besides taking an inordinate amount of the manager's time, I don't see the "strategy" helping in the least.
