I disagree, ATGers want the ability to put together a competitive team even if the draft doesn't go their way. From what I've seen in the 200x games, if you don't have a good draft (and admittedly, this is part of being a good manager) there is virtually no chance of rescuing your team, given the limited player pool. You are also at the mercy of those managers who purchase rating software, evaluations programs, number crunching databases, etc. to determine optimal team construction, etc.
I can see how the 200x and 1969 would be fine with a live draft, perhaps, but in normal auto leagues, It just doesn't do it for me.
Another "advantage" of ATG is the virtually endless variety of themes , experimental teams, different approaches to team construction, etc. you can try. If I want to put together a team of players who's mother's first name was Mary, chances are you could actually do that with the ATG player pool. Just ask Chief Wahoo! (aka Muttdoc).
