Advice on my lineup!!!!

Should I change my lineup around.... Comments or recommendations will be appreciated!!!!!
Small ball team playing in Griffith '24
1. Chance 1b
2. Aparicio ss
3. Cuyler rf
4. Ott cf
5. Steinfeldt 3b

7. Sanguillen c
8. Devore lf

The other 3 teams in my division play at : YS56, Fenway67, Fenway46

Season already started and Iam 13-11, good pitching Koosman, Mullin, Hoyt and Key

I just realized your season started so I gave a potential batting order, and just some general thoughts ......


I'm not sure how others will feel but I don't like Ott here....Very ballpark dependant for his power and just too slow for smallball (I like Flood here and a handfull of others)

I like Sanguillen a little, I have no experience with Devore, Aparicio not my first choice.....Collins, Cuyler, Chance and Steiny are a great start to win 90+

I like Nev's line-up with one exception. I would put Aparicio in front of Sanguillen. Manny is Mr. Double Play. He needs someone really fast in front of him to stay out of the Dp and take advantage of all those singles.

I haven't yet read the first two responses, so as not to influence my thinking.

First, you seem to lead the league in leadoff hitters. Of them Collins is the one I would lead off. I would probably bat Cuyler 4th and Chance 5th. Were I foolish enough to draft Ott -- which I did twice early in my career and will never do again -- he would probably bat 2nd, maybe 3rd. But with your speed, his walks just clog up the basepaths and his #'s are useless. Devore also sucks. But if one must have them on one's team then here is the lineup I might suggest.

You could make a case, albeit a weak one, for batting Luis 2nd against lefties. But his OBP is so pitiful against righties he should only bat 8th.

Chance and Steinfeldt bat 5-6 because they are both good clutch hitters and their chances to drive in runs are maximized in those two slots.

Devore's clutch issues are minimized in the two slot.

On my teams, whenever feasible, the number two hitter grounds into relatively few gba's. On your team everyone has at least 20 gba's on their card. This is a serious mistake IMHO. I don't think that you have a potent small ball offense but the majority of your rbi's will be from Cuyler, Chance and Steinfeldt.

Simmons would be a good alternative to Ott. Your draft card could have been:

Collins
Simmons
Cuyler
Chance

and you might have gotten all four. Or not. :)

I like devore, he's cheap, he'll give you .280BA/.350-.360OBP with great speed, great arm, but high errors. only a three-gamer injury risk as well.

I like Nev's lineup, but I would drop Devore down in front of Sanguillen (great value, nice arm, will hit .300 great speed for a C, but those DPs!) for the DP reason given by Gamiam. Aparicio should bat nowhere but eighth in that lineup. Collins should lead off against RHP and Cuyler against LHP, otherwise leave it the same as Nev suggested.

I see at least 90 wins for sure. What's your pen look like, BTW?

Except if you want Cuyler, and you list him 3rd on your card, you won't get him when I'm drafting :wink:

I'm a little weird. I would bat them in this order:

Cuyler
Chance
Steinfeldt
Ott
Sanguillen
Devore
Collins
Aparicio

Just my 2 cents worth, but I have had great luck with Kiki (the few times I have gotten him) in the leadoff spot.

Iagree Geezer, I'd put Cuyler in the two whole and lead with Chance-- the only change I'd make. Steindfeldt has always been awesome as a 3-hitter for me.
