30 Saves?

Postby Outta Leftfield » Thu Nov 10, 2005 7:22 pm

I've never had a 20 win season from a .75M pitcher but I did have a 30 save season (also 9-1) from Bill Dawley once, with a 2.60 ERA and .89 WHIP. I hestitate to mention this again, since having spoken about his performance on a previous thread, I've since found Dawley to be extremely [b:8e6a11e281]hard[/b:8e6a11e281] to draft. :cry:

So let me just point out that I have never seen Dawley anywhere near this good before or since. :D

.75's

One thing to look for among cheap pitchers is their K-IP ration. Read some more Bill James stuff this week, and he noted that successful pitchers have K averages per 9 inns. at or above the league averages (there are some exceptions, but they are singular). Of course, this ain't real life, and the years are documented, but K pitchers, in general are more valuable, since a K puts a stop to all offensive movement.

OK...so I was struggling to find a 4th starter in a league I'm in. On the testimony above, I give Rick Waits a test drive. He pitches a complete game giving up only 1 run. Do not...I repeat...do not hurt this man until my season is over. Thanks. :D

I was tempted to do the same thing Jimmy, but found myself unable. The minute I pick that stiff up, he will implode on me.

My personal Rick Waits jihad continues.

This was Mike Caldwell on my very first team TSN 121. I've had him on about a dozen teams since. Several good seasons, but nothing approaching this level of performance. 21-3 for 750K, what a bargain!!

Caldwell, M. '80 L S7* 21 3 0 218.0 261 81 69 79 3.34 1.51 .75M

I just noticed this as well;

Parrett, J. '87 R R2 4 1 8 43.0 37 17 20 44 3.56 1.33 .75M
Kipper, B. '88 L R2 10 4 6 129.0 107 39 55 78 2.72 1.26 .75M
Dawley, B. '85 R R3 8 1 2 83.2 93 41 47 38 4.41 1.67 .75M
James, B. '84 R R2 7 4 7 82.1 72 33 41 68 3.61 1.37 .75M

That's 50 wins from 5 .75 players. Ok if they were all starters, but 4 of them were pitching in relief!! In total, they went 50-13!!

IMO, Dawley is one of the best 0.75 guys out there.
