3 Studs and a Dud?

3 Studs and a Dud?

Postby GREGGZILIANI » Mon Nov 14, 2005 1:42 pm

Guys,

I am currently in the middle of a season with a smallball team in an $80M DH league. I decided to go with 3 studs (Brown, Hubbell, and Leifield) and a dud (Sanderson) in Forbes. So far, so good (25-17). I was just wondering about others experience with this type of strategy vs. 2 Studs and 2 Middle of the Road guys. (i.e. 2 $10M starters and 2 say...$6M starters). Just curious as to others experience of 1 strategy vs. the other.

Regards,

MD

You see alot of successful managers employ this strategy...usually with a speer/frock/rommel type combo for the 4th slot....it can certainly be effective

Here's my attempt at this. Won the division, but lost in the semi-finals.

It can be very successful because your team is bigger favorite with the 3 studs pitching and if you can be anywhere near .500 with the last spot with a value pitcher you will make playoffs where that barren 4th spot only hurts for 20% of the playoffs 1st round and 16% in the finals, so it is a solid strategy

Interestingly, I've been thinking of the same thing. Right now I've got Camnitz, Leifeld, Mogridge and Hughes, but thinking of going to maybe Young and somebody cheap added to Frock alternating as the 4th starter. I'd like to hear more pros and cons of the two approaches, although I am very happy with what I've got, and consider myself ready to play.
