Just want to comment on the "best hitters of the 80s" statement.

Brett is a very good choice for #1, I agree. I think the next two (or possible slightly better choices, in some cases) are Guerrero and Clark. They're simply monsters with the bat, and certainly among the best RH hitters of the period. For flat out hitting (not taking power or walks into account), I think Gwynn is better than anybody. His park is not the best park for a singles hitter, and he was always cranking out the hits.

Best speed-power combo: Rickey (impacts the game in more ways than any other player, in my opinion)

Best "havoc wreaker" not named Rickey: Jack Clark (no speed, but all those walks)

Best hitter (average): Gwynn (over Boggs)

Underrated player: Will Clark (Will hits for power and average, he did it in a poor hitter's park, he has an excellent glove, good speed, and a fair steal rating; he can bunt and H&R very well for a power hitter; he really does everything well).

I'm glad you acquired Brett and kept Ripken. Though I advised a trade above, I quickly changed my mind and felt that Brett/Ripken gave you a great combo.

You could do a lot worse than Kemp in LF--esp. if you get his monster year-- and there are a lot of other cheap LFs who are pretty good, as participants in the Over/Under 4M leagues could tell you. I happen to like Claudel Washington a lot--or John Kruk--and at the lower prices you can also afford to platoon. Anyway, you can always find a corner OF who can hit but a SS like Ripken is hard to find.
