Just selected the players I want for my first 80's game. Looking forward to this. Wish I would have seen the ad's for leagues sooner...I'm in an auto league. Guess I'll post my team when I see it and ask for help.

An auto league is a good place to start. The private league are full of vets who know how to fleece a newcommer. Post question and seek advice on the boards and you'll get some. There are many ways to win at the 80's but you need to find what works 4 u.

In addition sometime around Thursday (or hopefully sooner) I will have a thread with plenty of data to share with folks. Based on players who have ended seasons on my roster for my 57 completed teams, I will have stats available on request for players.

Sometime over the next 2 months I will have created auto-draft teams using players I am missing data for to ensure that I have finished a season with every player in the deck on my squad at least once. While I have used every player at some point in time, I do not have year end data on them due to dropping players during the course of a season.

The main goal will be to provide data to folks who want to know if player X will perform to his card even if you get his year revealed due to injury. Results will be surprising. There are diamonds in the rough and some real clunkers to boot.

Hey thanks guys. I got my pre waiver team right now...trying to think of what to do. I'm in Tiger Stadium and my division is all pitchers' parks. Does that mean I should get guys with speed...that steal bases and hit and run well? Here's my team before waivers:

Let me know what I could do. I've noticed most of my pitchers have + ratings for the hold rating. That could cause me problems eh?

Hey Brian...welcome aboard. This game will teach you how to pull out your hair in about 100 different ways :D . There is a ton of great advice on these boards regarding strategy, detecting which card you have after an injury, which pitchers keep the ball in the park more than others, etc...so you'll want to check out those threads.

Regarding your drafted team.....well....I like your bullpen.

If this was my team I would do the following.

Drop Wills, Thon, Henderson, Dernier...no room for them in the lineup at Tiger. I would also lose Welch, Hough, Hammaker (only because Hammaker is a 4-day rest pitcher). I would want to start my season with 4 3-day rest pitchers and 1 very inexpensive (.75) 5th starter.

What I would want to get on the mound is 1 or 2 starters like Reuss, B Smith, Reuschel, Hiquera, Valenzuala(even though a lot of guys don't seem to like him)...who seem to keep the ball in the park more (at least in my experience).

My first waivers draft choice would be for a real shortstop...hopefully there is 1 or 2 left. They go very fast...a 1 or 2 range shortstop would be a necessity as far as I was concerned (is Ripkin available?).

Then...you absolutely have got to get some very heavy ball knockers into your lineup...definitely at 1st and third and both outfield corners. In Tiger I would worry less about defense ability, and try to out-hammer my opposition with the bats.

Hopefully Yountfan will reply...he plays Tiger and can really lead you in the best direction. Good luck and have fun!

Agree with Jimmy C. Nice start. Although I've never played Tiger, it is not unlike the Murph (0/0/16/16), which I have played. Sort of a pitcher's park, in a way. Really limits OBP, so you need guys that can get on base on their own. So, in addition to adding a bopper or two, I'd look to add another guy or two to go along with Dykstra. Hargrove/Harrah? There are also platoon boppers that fit this mold - Gamble, Phelps, etc. Who's there on waivers?

Smalley can be a good hitting in a park like Tiger, but Oquendo play SS pretty good, and there tends to be more 2b available then SS. The other comments are on the money.

I'm in your league so I don't want to be blamed if I give you bad advice, But you need a bit more power to play in Tiger. There are some power hitting 3b available (Horner for 1) and For the price J Thompson can play a pretty good first base.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice guys. Really appreciated.

Now...I had already decided to get rid of a few of those guys and I have one of the guys mentioned on my waiver claims. This game seems like it's going to be a lot of fun...I already like this whole mystery card thing. One question...is everyone guaranteed to get some "best" cards or could you end up with the worst card for every player on your team?

How come some players aren't called by their names? I got Boston #21.

BTW yountfan, I'm glad you want to protect yourself from giving what could be bad advice given we are in the same league. I respect that. Good luck.

Langston is on the table but I offered Welch for Reuss....we'll see if the guy is interested. I didn't want Langston cuz there are a lot of righties in my division.

Well, he wasn't. Oh well...
