Anyone ever use closer in setup role?

Has anyone ever used a second closer in a 1 inning set-up role? Such as having Rivera as closer set as not to be used before 9th inning and have a guy like Cordero set as set-up with settings of not to be used before 8th inning and set to pitch no more then an inning. Is this idiocy? Did i even spell that right? lol

First of all, there is no "don't use before 9th" option anymore. In any event, your idea is wasteful. One, you're paying for a closer rating that you're not using. Two, you're only getting one inning out of your setup man, where there are many excellent ones who can go two or even three innings. (You'd probably also end up with Cordero left in to close at least some games.)

It would at least make more sense if the closer you're using as the setup man had an R2 or better, and/or a low C rating, like C0 or C1.

thanks Dean, It's not something i've ever tried but i was just curious. Your reasoning put an end to that idea. You could have just said it's idiocy. lol
