Is this Game Rigged?

Is this Game Rigged?

unless someone can convince me otherwise, this game is not strictly about the dice rolls as it claims to be. I just finished a three-game set at Griffith and lost 2 of 3. The scores were 1-0 (won), 1-0 (lost in 17 innings) & 2-1 (lost). I went up against Pfeister, Camnitz & Coveleski. You mean to tell me that in 35 innings a team featuring Yaz, Jackie Robinson, Dawson, Reggie Jackson & Powell can only muster 2 runs? I know about the ballpark factors and I know that I was going up against a couple of aces, however, these players cards have enough non-BPHR's & basehits where the ballpark they play in should not be an issue. Therefore, the issue is that the dice rolls all fall into the pitchers card. I've noticed that if you play in an extreme pitchers park, you can have a great lineup and it will not matter-the pitchers card will take over. If I probably play the board game, the results i'm sure would be different. The computer is rigged in my opinion.

while i feel your pain JB(i think we have all been shocked into disbelief at the way a series has gone one way or another)In my opinion in baseball(or strat in this case)you just never know what will happen in a given series, which is why the season is so long.So that things will all equal out in the end.Just my take on things

You are correct, it's rigged... but not the way you think. It's rigged against YOU. Those things are happening because the game does not like you.

Seriously, you are underestimating the effect that random variation can have. It is completely reasonable that a lineup featuring the guys that you mention, or a lineup featuring Ruth, Gehrig, and Mantle, for that matter, might be held to 2 runs in 35 innings, ESPECIALLY by the pitchers you mentioned. I play in pitchers parks all the time, and I usually have a pretty strong lineup. I've been shut down more times than I can count, and by a lot worse pitchers than those guys.

Of course, I've also slaughtered some awfully good pitchers. That's random variation for ya.

I'm with the guys who posted above me. It's just random variation. I do not believe the game is rigged, or I wouldn't be playing. I've played this game for over two years on-line, and have played the board game since I was 16. (I'm 50). I've had great hitting teams go in to major slumps, and I've had light hitting punch & judy types pound out 20 plus runs in a game. I've seen Pete Alexander knocked out after two innings in Griffith Park, and I've seen sub $1m pitchers throw no hitters in slugging parks. In any single, or even a handful of series, you will see things that seem to defy logic/the odds. But, over the course of a full season, MOST things DO even out, and performances equalize to their norms, IMO. :)

I have in my short 5 team ATGII career personally had teams that:

1, opened not just a can, but a case of whupass on those pitchers you list and other stud starters,

2, Just ended a season in which I was 3rd in the league in homers, 2nd in walks but 9th in total runs and last in BA while going 86 and 76(oh, and 3rd in pitching with a 4.21 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in Polo 11),

3, Currently have Camnitz at 11 and 12 near the top of the league in homers surrendered but with a 1.31 WHIP and 8th in the league in ERA with a 3.73,

4, Had Mel Ott batting .328, .459 obp on one team but was cut batting .187 on another...

This just off the top of my head because this is the last few weeks plus now. I am convinced that this is absolutely nothing but a dice game. I say this understanding that nothing I have said about my teams is special, but I am absolutely convinced of the game's randomness, and, in the conviction that ATGII is BETTER than my years of experience with the board game for relatively predictable results.

One series is by far too small a sample to judge anything. Heck, even half a season can produce results wildly different from what you'd expect. I once had Willie Mays limp to the halfway mark with a .240 average and less than 20 hr and 50 rbi. He ended up hitting around .280 with 50+ hr, 140+ rbi, and drove my team to the playoffs.

As I recall, the hitting star of the playoffs was Ossie Bluege.

If you have ever rolled the dice yourself, you would know it is not rigged. You can hit the pitchers card 75% of the time, when things are going bad.

I guess wild variations are the norm then. I just started and i guess i'm hooked cause I was about to get the board game to see for myself how this all plays out live! (I played APBA as a kid and that was fun but that game doesn't have the detailed pitching ratings and no stadium ratings. I think I'll give this a shot)

JB -

A while back, I had the infamous nickel OF Dick Williams hit 3 HRs in a single game against the following pitchers in a 100M league:

Pfiester
W Hernandez
Eckersley

<BLANK> happens, and it's random - though the bad randoms happen to me more than anyone else. :D
