A Stratomatic Christmas

I would be SO into that! Strat Football head to head is my first love. We played some great games with all the old teams that Strat Fan Magazine put out! I have a Stroh's Beer Box full of football cards! :D

I too miss SOM football. Played the on-line game here, before it went under. Used to run and play in leagues with my friends, and my son and I would play vs each other (although we both could get pretty hot when the dice were unkind). :) I missed it so much I pulled out my board game and played a couple of solataire seasons with some old timer teams; 63 Browns & Giants, this past fall. Not as much fun as head to head, but at least it satisfied my SOM football craving a little. I miss the good old SOM football days... :(

I wonder how long it would take to play like that? Never tried instant messaging. In any event, the ONLY time I would be able to play like that would be overnight on Fri. & Sat., when my grandson is asleep and I am off from work. (That's also assuming we don't have a frenzy going on then, as well). That's the only time I could have my board set up and be sure the "giant baby" doesn't wipe out the stadium! :)

I was home at my parents over the Thanksgiving and decided to dig through my storage area of collectables and found all of my strat games. I believe my first football set was in 1983 or 84, but I also have 1980 through 84 in basketball. I guess I am one of the few that really loved basketball. My friend and I used to play night and day, but we could not find anyone else to play. I do miss the head to head footbal and basketball.

Our games using the advanced, not the super advanced rules, took about 2 hours to play. In an IM...maybe 3. We would have to find ways to cut down on the defensive play calling time. For example...using a number chart for preset defensive calls. a 1 might mean blitzing the left linebacker into the end run blitz zone and so on. We would have to work on it but I'm sure we could come up with something. I never liked the way they had solitaire play set up.
