My new friend Larry Doyle

My new friend Larry Doyle

Postby PJ Axelsson » Fri Jan 13, 2006 10:54 am

There was a time when one brave sole used to sing the praises of one Larry Doyle. Was it you, Charlie?

In any event, I'm going for it with Larry this time around. I assembled a team full of injury plagued super bats. Brett, JoeD, Doyle, Meusel, Alou, Lombardi...Doyle currently has Evers as a backup defensive friend (somehow I missed out on Frank White).

Who's got a good Doyle story for me?

Charlie would NEVER sing the praises of a 3e38 at 2B. Not MY Charlie!

Larry D as a DH in Dunn

G 158
AB 660
R 135
H 215
2B 28
3B 24
HR 14
RBI 139
BB 63
K 55
SB 79
CS 22
BA.326
SLG .505
OBP .384

I have tried him in the field, I think he gets too worried about the brick he wears on his left hand and forgets how to hit.

For a while it seemed I was the [b:43070bdd2a]sole[/b:43070bdd2a][/size:43070bdd2a] person interested in him. :D
He is a top of the lineup guy who can be a small ball slugger against righties. May not get HR's but triples are worth a lot at the top of a lineup.

Used Larry Doyle on this Championship Team
Led team with Joe Jackson, Andre Dawson and Furillo in slugging % those triples really help! Was an abSOLE[/size:43070bdd2a]lute monster in the playoffs

Won 90 games in this Platooning team Doyle/Doran together only 20 errors!

I like Larry Doyle on 100 million teams, in a pitching park he can be effective if you have a good defensive sub which would probably be Maz or Gallego in an 80 million league. In a 100 million small ball team a Doran/Doyle platoon can be good you can bat both second and set Doyle to avoid lefties remove for defensive sub. In an 80 million league it is too much money and defensive subs can't bat second.

PJ if this is a 100 million league a platoon with Marty Barret could be very good if Doran is not available, otherwise go with a cheap defensive sub. Evers is not enough improvement for the money and can't hit lefties either. I won a championship in a 200 million league platooning Joe Morgan with Marty Barrett (Yes I sat Joe against lefties)

It's an 80m, and I'm in Baker. Nothing small about this, I just wanted to use the guy. I'm likely to drop Evers or deal him and go with either Maz or Quilici as the defensive sub.

This team was initially supposed to be a team that was all about extra base hits that weren't homers. However, my plans and schemes and philosophies all sorta got mixed up along the way and I ended up in Baker with a hodge podge of injury guys.

I've been dying to try the Brett-JoeD duo again, and this team will do that.

The extra base hits team was born out of the wonder and awe that a certain Stan Musial is generating every day on this team:

Anybody ever come close to these Stan Musial numbers? I doubt it. Still got 45 games to go. :D

If it makes you feel any better, my only 2 championship teams in ATG1 had Doyle at 2B. One of those teams also had Brett/Dimaggio as well.

Here's a pretty good season from Larry in a $60M league.

I once had 0 errors from Larry, but he was a DH...on a team that lost the finals to some joker platooning Marty Barrett and Joe Morgan at 2B.
