Rookie needs help

Your SPs are fine, but Jackie at 2B and Hack Wilson in CF are bad choices.

Get Steiny at 3B for Boyer, F Alou in CF and upgrade Moore to Bing Miller or Fred Clarke. Schalk does not hit as well, but is a possibility for Mancuso at C.

If you need cash, Bahnsen for Eastwick is a good choice.

Best of luck, sschu

Opps, 2B is thin, I would go glove and get Frank White or if you have some cash, Gilliam.

You've made a great start, congratulations! You are in a pitcher's park, where Koufax and your other starter's ballpark homerun chances are minimized. Are other parks in your division (which you play more often that teams outside of your division) also pitcher's parks? If they are homer parks, you will struggle away from home.

Wagner will give up a lot of errors, but he's one of the best players in the game for your park.

A couple of suggestions:

Get rid of Petrie for a .50 starter only if any are left. This way that inexpensive pitcher won't see any action, and your better pitchers will pitch more. Do the same if possible for Brusstar. This will free up some money for other things.

Your defense will be a problem with Jackie at 2nd and Hack in center. If there is a better fielding CF that is less of a ballpark homer guy out there, I'd take them. Trade in one of your backup 1B's for a cheap, good fielding backup for Jackie in the late innings.

Use the money you save in pitching and in CF to upgrade Moore in left, and possibly your catcher.

It looks like a competitive team with some changes, although I'm not sure about your starters unless the other parks in the division are all pitchers parks.

Good luck!

well with your 4 main starters you dont need petrie. so first thing i would do is replace him and brustar for .50 nickel starters with no relief possibilities. pure starters. then you have no lefty at all in your bullpen. couple righties who can get lefties out but if the roll lands on their card, but if it lands on the hitters card and its a lefty who pounds righties he will get hit. so my 2 cents is i would search the wire or trade in a quality lefty for the pen. then i do agree that your weak up the middle. with wagner and jackie and hack up the middle you will struggle defensivley/ so i would lose moore in left field also. you could lose cepeda at first and move jackie there and use that money to upgrade moore in lf. and use a cheapie defense platoon for 2nd or get a good defensive replacement for jackie with lead and late innings. i still dont like hack in center but at this juncture probably not alot available. wish i could see the free agents available.

also be prepared for lots of righties thrown at you. just remember this though its good to live and learn sometimes cause their are lots of different ways to win in this game. so opinions are many. and different alot. so have fun and study the boards. and when people post questions or their teams view them and see what made their teams win or struggle and you will get a better understanding of what you like to do. good luck

The only2 I use at second base is Hornsby (and Mazeroski vs lefties). Love Jackie but at 1st or third. Would move him over, dump Boyer -- he's not ideal for your park. Try to get Whitaker if you can; he's usually there after the top guys are taken. Evers is also a possibility but would give you the all iron hands up the middle.

Now I'll actually look at your team.

Ok, see that Steinfeld is now at 3b and White at 2nd base. I would have kept Jackie, possibly at first. I would still pick up Evers as all the other good 2nd baseman are on your opponents teams although one of them is using Doyle and another Lopes. Check out the era's on those teams as the season progresses. I have used an Evers/White platoon several times to good effect.

So many good CF's. Hack is not one of them. He'll help your offense but you won't see his d in the stats and you'll just wonder why you're losing. For some strange reason Petry is still on your squad. But if you want to waste the 1M +...

Also, since you made some of the changes my colleagues recommended earlier in this thread -- prior to my posting -- it might be nice to thank them for taking the time to give you the advice.

D Cox is your only option as a SP only pitcher. He costs a little more than guys like Nipper and Conroy, but he is at least cheaper than Petry. Based on your rotation, you could buy ANY SP and just make sure you place ALL 5 guys in your starting rotation section.
You can take your 1+ mil you save by dumping Petry and turn Hodges into Powell. You could also go cheaper and go with Luderus or McCormick at 1st base. They are good for your park.
Felipe Alou is a MUCH BETTER option for CF.
With the money you have saved you can turn Miller into Cleon Jones (another great player for your ballpark).
Personally, I do not like Gwynn. I do not see his role on this team. I would look for more power in his spot.
