Once the premier team in all of the Take 2 season, Detroit had slipped back into the pack after the first 2 months of the season. What seemed like 3 years ago, is a reality once again as Detroit sits alone atop the AL East after the Tigers flogged the Red Sox 21-10.

The game looked ugly early for the Tigers, despite Detroit scoring 3 runs in the top of the first off Boston starter Mike Trujillo. In the bottom of the first, Detroit's own starting hurler Randy O'Neal failed to retire a batter. He walked the first 3 men he faced, then allowed a single, and gave Boston's Don Baylor a gift in the heart of the plate, whick Baylor knocked into the CITGO sign 2 blocks away from Fenway.

In the top of the second, Darnell Coles went to work on Boston. He doubled home 2 runs to tie the game that inning, hit a 3 run homer in the 3rd, and drove in 2 more on a single in the 6th. Those were the most runs he had driven in since his sophomore year of high school.

[b:36836f16c8]Out in the senior circuit...[/b:36836f16c8] Things are getting interesting in the NL West, as the Astros beat the Braves, 8-4, getting them within 1 game again of the first place Padres. This game was pretty close until Jose Cruz popped a 3 run homer off losing Brave's reliever Jeff Dedmon in the top of the 6th inning. When asked about how he smacked that homer, Cruz credits his 12 year old son Jose Cruz Jr. with selecting the right socks to wear to the ballpark that day.
