Vince Coleman

Have you ever seen anyone that is a AAA for Base Stealing? And he's only 540k. If he gets on base and the next hitter takes a pitch, Vince will be on second or even third...

Coleman keeps you cool

That is a great point. He is the best pinch runner money could ever buy!

Pendleton vs. Schmidt

Postby apolivka » Wed Mar 12, 2008 7:59 pm

The only 1s at 3b in the set are Pendleton and Schmidt. Schmidt at 11M+ seems way, way overpriced. 3/4 of his ABs will be vs. right handed pitching where he is very mediocre. Yet the other 1 at 3b is under a million....

I doubt Schmidt will be taken by many good teams.

Pendleton and Schmidt

In one league I actually have both. But I agree that Schmidt is over priced. And he is better against lefties! However he is better than mediocre vs. RHP(especially for 1986). And in a draft league, salary does not matter! I do agree with your point though.

Can Tom Foley at 1.68 be categorized as a bargain?
He seems to do really well as part of a righty/lefty platoon (hitting .364 for me in 28 games and 81 AB's) and has great versatility across the board as a defensive sub in the infield. He is a B on steals so could possibly swipe 10-15 bags.

Bargain?

Tony Phillips is 2+ million, but he's multi-positional (albeit not very good) and an OBP machine. I have him DH-ing vs. LHP and he's batting .200 and on base over .500.

Cheap? I like John Cangelosi-plays each OF position, not bad hitter, AA
SBs
Mark Langston is pretty damn good for $1.00m.
John Cerutti seems a good LOOGY for under $1.00 m.
Jim Presley at 3B, good clutch hitter, 20+ HRs.
I have Frank Dipino at around $1.00 and he's pretty good
too.
Lonnie Smith. Bad defender, good hitters vs. LHP and RHP.

Mid-priced, but seeming good?
Alvin Davis as a DH, OBP machine and hits vs. LHP and RHP.
Mitch Webster at any of the three OF spots
Mark Davis and Mark Clear are my closers. Each cost about
$3.5m; each seem pretty damn effective after 20 games.
Kevin McReynolds looked like a good card, but I didn't have $4.5
m available.

There are some good...

Number 4 or 5 Starters out there too...Langston, Rawley, Hawkins, Madden and Denny are all good matches with their respective reverses.

Without a doubt, Lake appears to be the best value at C vs the leftside, but being obvious, will likely be hard to get after the 10th pick...But for the money in a power Park like the Kingdome - You gotta' like Wynegar.

I like to always carry at least 1 or 2 reverse hitters and am having good luck with 2 position OF H. Cotto and Kittle(As a DH vs the right side)...From the leftside Davis gives you nearly as much as Parker in RF offensively and defensively for less money.

In an even park or one with low HRs and decent singles I really like Tabler at 1B or DH.

And I totally agree on A. Davis as a 1B platoon or DH.
