First Team

Okay, I'm new at this. Here's my first team:

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/stratomatic/team/team_other.html?user_id=72543&stats=actual

I didn't end up with anything like what I drafted, so I pieced together what I could. :( The starting pitching is not very good after Witt, but at least I was able to get a deep bullpen. Quick hook on everyone but Witt, I guess.

Proposed lineup:
1) Griffin SS
2) Barrett 2B
3) Rice LF
4) Hrbek 1B
5) Murphy CF
6) Parker RF
7) Jacoby 3B
8) Hendrick/Easler DH
9) Laudner/Whitt C

Okay, rip away!

Way too many relievers, which gives you too few good starters and little OBP, which is hard to get anyway.

Your staff is going to get beaten up at your park . You need to find pitchers who don't have many ballpark effect homers on them (#) OR in the 2 or 12 spot . Your pen is somewhat strong but not the right guys due to the #'s .

Your outfield will not miss a game at all to injury . Your hitting is good enough to put up some runs but your pitching may just give them back .

Okay, thanks guys. I had to give up Horton, but I was able to get some
starters with fewer #s in there.

I like the changes to the SP . The only one now of your staff I might question is Russell. His card is not for your park . If available look at these : Jay Howell , Rod Scurry , Terry Forester, and Quis as examples.

Now this is a DH league right ? You can trim your roster by 2 players and get down to 24 from 26. Easler and Landreaux are unnecessary due to the zero injury risk to your 3 OF's. There's 3M+ to spend on a bonified DH .

Here's my RF team that starts Monday . Not that these guys will do great but they should keep me in the game for the hitters. In this league I'm pretty much the only hitters park . The rest are all pitchers parks so who knows how it's going to turn out .

Here is my 2 cents (as someone trying to get back into the groove having not played since the tabletop in the mid-90's and strugglnig at .500 with my current team).

I think you have done a wonderful job drafting defense. You have some stalwart pitching and I think Puckett and Parker are both studs. I think Hrbek has a card history of under achieving so I am not a fan of his. I also like Langston as a roving starter against teams with lefty issues.

My only concerns are your bullpen being a little lefty heavy and Garber being weak against righties, also Downing with his +1 arm getting run on all day long in left. I might have carried a 4th OF with better defense that could run to use as a pinch runner/defensive replacement.

All in all I think you did a great job.

I've got two Fenways and one Yankee Stadium in my division. There are several other hitters parks and not too many pitchers parks in the other divisions. There ought to be some runs scored.

I have played strat-o-matic quite a lot, and my ultimate goal is to play ATGIII. My favorite "season" that I have is 1960. It's the only extra one I have that is "super advanced;" but I've learned a lot trying out different teams and strategies. For instance, defensive strength at SS and 2B is vital, and to a lesser extent in CF. In that 1960 season Willie Mays is by far the best player in either league and makes the biggest difference to whatever team I put him on. I gather from the pricing here they think Mattingly and Clemens are the best players and will have the most impact. Looking at it ahead of time myself, unless Mattingly is significantly better offensively than anyone else, I wonder if he would give you the most bang for the buck or if it would be someone else.

The big problem is there aren't any legitimate DHs left (full-time DHs) that I can afford, unless I want to make other changes (downgrade elsewhere). So I'm basically stuck with a platoon.

I understand about Russell. I have dropped him and picked up Tom Hume.

Who is your #5 starter. You don't need Langston. Use the money to upgrade you bullpen or #5 starter. You might need a .50 back-up OF. Solid team that should have a winning record.
