Anyone willing to launch a real teams league?

I did think about that.
My thought was that the draft of players should go first. Then those with draft picks would be able to assess the leftover players and pick accordingly since there won't really be a waiver wire period for the rest of us unless you count expanding from 25-28 players to fill out roster scrubs/extra pitching.
We could also have a gentlemans agreement via email or this message board over who takes what with the few teams that have picks (there are total of 13 FA's needed).
The whole point is to have fun and make it competitive.
If I need to switch my team to something else because someone really wants a yankee then i'll do it. I just want everyone to enjoy what they are donig and be competitive and see what happens.

Sorry all. I got called out of town for work, and didn't have time to sign up. I am here now. I just have one question: This is the first theme league I am in. Do I just go ahead and draft all my Reds and then wait for Waivers to get my free agents?

And as far as switching teams, can we follow the rules please? The rules state that we put whatever free agents we are allowed to go for at the top of our draft card. Then those who lose out via the autodraft have a shot at the waivers possibly.

If we waited for waivers, then the 9 teams that can select free agents are going to go in the arbitrary random order that HAL creates since we will ALL have gotten all 25 guys on our autodraft cards.

I would much rather take my chances at getting Player A via autodraft than have no chance because HAL puts me sixth in waivers.

And since there were at least six teams already loaded into the league before writerchris flip-flopped and there's 10 now, let's refrain from forcing people to have to pull their team out to make a change.

What if Team A put Mattingly at the top of their card, loaded their team today and then did not check in again. The result could be that the draft runs, he gets Mattingly, and then you mail him to say, "umm.. I have the Yankees you can't have him."

Then he gets screwed because he never had a chance to change his draft card.

And maybe it also gives an unfair advantage to the person who switches, knowing less than 12 managers may be aware of the change and thus a player from the now-eligible team gets placed at the top of their draft card.

If I gotta stick with the Twins I gotta stick with the Twins. There are so many players available though i really doubt there will be overlap since everyone has different needs. for example as the Twins I have no need for anything other than pitching. I was gonna skip picking out of my draft anyway as I would not want to get my hopes up based on random seeding and then be annoyed when I couldnt get the player. I was gonna take stock after the fact and pick the best 3 spots to fill the holes I have.

I have my team currently set to the Yank's but will switch to the Twins; just give me a command decision.

I do want to point out that the autodraft is equally as random as waivers, if the teams picking FA's all get the ones you want ahead of you, there still will be no say in the matter.

However, waivers are not random. Waivers are set in order of success in the draft.
Each spot on your draft card is worth points - first spot is 25 and last spot is 1. The waivers are then ranked based on the points from the players you did not get.
So in this instance, someone getting two free agents who missed on both in the draft, would probably be near or at the top of waivers. The silver lining for not getting the guy you wanted. Whereas the person who got his one free agent would be lumped in at the bottom of the waivers list with those who got everyone on their card.
If we JUST load our 25-man rosters with our selected teams then everyone is 100 percent successful and the waivers would be random, which is a totally different situation and strategy base. And, again, not how the rules were originally stated.

I think it would be only fair if writerchris switched back to the Twins.

Just want to let you know that one drawback to an autodraft is that there will be some instances where a team will get players that belong to another team. For example, a team may put Mike Schmidt as their auto draft pick but may end up getting Keith Hernandez. I'm not sure how you guys want to handle these situations but I think it should be tough luck for the the team that drafted Keith Hernandez and they should drop Hernandez and pick up another available free agent through waivers.

I agree, it is a free league and you can't account for every situation, but if a guy belongs to someones 'base team' you have to give him to him, after all, I'm sure a bunch of us (me included) picked our teams based on the players we knew we would have and what we though we could add to the team.

One other question, after the auto draft we will all be able to fill the last 3 spot with the leftover guys from the base team right? Just in case of injuries.
