Rotation

Postby gpipes68 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 9:02 am

In the '86 game, I set up my 5-man rotation, and my No. 1, 2 and 3 starters pitched the first three games of the season. But in looking at the matchups for my second series of the season, my No. 1 starter is scheduled to pitch the season's fifth game. I have three '86 teams and the same thing is happening in all three.

My question is: Do I have to go in manually to the per-game starter option to get my No. 5 starter in there? And does that mess up my rotation going forward?

It depends on how many *SP (3 day rest starters) vs non-*SP (4 day rest starters) are in your rotation. If you have 4 *SP in your rotation settings ahead of your 5th SP then your #5 guy will never pitch UNLESS you use the per game starters setting. If you have a mixture of *SP and SP then your 5th guy will pitch but not every 5th day since you have some *SP ahead of him in the rotation setting. HAL (the SOM computer manager) will always use the highest ranked SP in your rotation settings that is rested. The per game starters setting overides the rotation settings if you would prefer to select which pitcher starts when.

Thanks LM.

Are 3-day rest pitchers less effective if they are pitching every fourth game vs. every fifth game?

No they shouldn't be less effective . The * on SP's is so you can possibly cut down on using the 5th guy ,who may be a bum! In 5 man without the * I go with a 6 man to have some flexibility.

SP are not more effective if you rest them longer. It makes no difference. Hitters do not fatigue if they play 162 games either.
