Is the closer rule in effect for 1986? I know there was a previous thread asking this. However, I can't find it, and I seem to remember that the last response at the time didn't think so but wasn't certain.

I read somewhere that the closer rule is not in effect. In fact, none of the pitchers have closer ratings so this tells me that the closer rule is not being used.

Yes , there is closer ratings . Example : Garber e0 #2WR pitcher-2 relief(2)/5@ . This means he can go 2 innings before fatigue and 5 outs as closer .

I emailed TSN to find out for sure, and it turns out closer rules are NOT used for the 1986 set.

"Dear Manager,

Thank you for your inquiry. While the responder on the boards is correct in saying that is his hypothetical closer rating, the rating is not used in game. So disregard that rating for the ’86 game. We apologize for the confusion. Please contact us if you have any further questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
