Newbie looking for critique of team

Van Slyke needs to hit at the bottom against LHP.
Sandberg needs to be moved down against LHP.
Parrish up against LHP.
Garvey up against LHP.
Griffin 9th against LHP.
Why 2 different catchers? Combine $ and get a better everyday C.
McReynolds towards the bottom against PHP.
Jacoby up against RHP (bettern OPS than the 2 guys in front of him).

You still have 3 expensive 3Bs. There should be a way to reduce the number and upgrade.
Pettis is too expensive to be on the bench. Use that $ to upgrade elsewhere.

Go to Baseball-Reference.com if necessary to get splits. Start by listing your lineups 1-9 based on OBP against both RHP and LHP and then adjust from there (based mainly on speed and power moving guys up or down a couple spots).

The catchers I have are the best left for defence.
The reason I have Van Slyke hitting 2nd against both is because he only has four gba's on his card, 2 against LHP and 2 against RHP. I can understand switching Sandberg and Parrish in the LHP lineup and moving Griffin to 9th. The reason I have McReynolds batting leadoff against both is that he has the highest obp on my team.

The biggest problem I am having is that other than RF's there is really no better talent then what I already have. And I think I already have the best RF of '86 when you account for def and hitting. Davis would be a close second.

Van Slyke hits .207 with .290 OBP against LHP. That sounds like an 8th hitter. Batting 2nd will get him about 50 extra at bats against LHP.

That looks like a no. 6 or 7 hitter against RHP and a 1, 2, or 3 hitter against LHP.

Both these guys have huge split differences. You need to maximize ABs on their good side and minimize on their bad sides.

for what it's worth I had five of your players on my team and here's how they have done. Garvey and Joyner should be third. Diaz is a great no. 6. I agree that you needed a great leadoff like Raines who was a stud for me. Kent Tekulve is a great reliever value. Had SEbra and Garrelts briefly and they stunk but sometimes you have to be patient. I picked up Nolan Ryan who was dropped and he did great for me. My team has been competetive but my big problem is not having enough quality relief pitchers. That cost me at least ten games. I started with Brett and E. Davis and they both were horrible. OBP is the key.
